  1. The Wisest thing I've Ever heard On Allnurses: Stick to the topic of the posted thread.
  2. g'day julianne and welcome to the aussie forums! just a tip if you're coming down under ..... nappy! here in oz we call them nappies - not diapers. i hope you enjoy your travels to our beauitful land here down under and that your stay here is filled with lots of fun and interesting experiences. i'm not in nsw, but hopefully someone who is will make contact and offer to join you for tea!
  3. Wishing you fulfillment, peace and happiness as you move forward.
  4. two rules by which to practise: ~ 1) "if it isn't written- it didn't happen". always document document document. ~ 2) always remember; whatever you document/chart/write, might one day have to stand up in a court of law. i see nothing inappropriate with you charting/documenting as you have exampled here above.
  5. Am sorry you are having a tough time of it. Unfortunately, despite what the spin docotrs say, us older folks do get discriminated against. Wisdom and experience only come with age, sadly that fact escapes many people in positions of power. Stay positive if you can, I know that's not always easy, and I wish you every success in your quest to find a suitable position.
  6. I saw something on the TV news this morning, but missed the details of the report. I got the impression that things were shifting in favour of the ANF, but don't quote me. My experience has always been that the public are supportive and encouraging of nurses fighting for better outcomes, regardless of it being wages, conditions etc. Most folks who have ever engaged with the health industry as a "consumer" or "consumer" support person, know only too well how nurses are the backbone and deserve a fair go and decent wages, conditions etc. Keep up the good fight kiddo, the baton's in your hands now! But .... if you ever need a back-up! .......
  7. I dunno, Ceridwyn will have to answer this Q. But ... if this is happening, then shame on them! I know we share the whole planet, but charity begins at home! JMHO. :)
  8. It saddens me that this once worlds best airline has come to this. Yet the loons in power keep alllowing into this country ....... oh never mind!
  9. of course! they'll jump on that like a full-back on the ball!
  10. Oh yes! - Those were such fun - not! The only time a split shift was of advantage was if you played softball for the hospital team and they "allowed" you the time off to play! But, you had to return to complete your shift! I'm guessing it was as much for the good PR of the hospital as for the wellbeing of the nurse - [that we were allowed to play softball!] Ahhh, those were the days! Ha ha, I can't even imagine that happening today! but ... I'm talking 1960's here!
  11. Well come on across and we'll take you down to the valley for a few reds! *wine:D
  12. And now QANTAS! Look at what's happening there! I was a member of the ANF all my nursing career and post for quite sometime. In the 1960's through to my retirement in early 2000's, we've fought like warriors for better pay, better conditions etc etc, and all the while managements would fight us each and every step. We managed to make some differences, but it pains my heart to see the younger generation of nurses still having to fight for the respect and a fair go. It was my generation who truly believed we'd make it better not only for ourselves, but for those who would follow us. It was the legacy we hoped to leave. Still, I guess there'll always be the divide between the workers and management for all time.
  13. :yawn::zzzzz:zzzzz:zzzzz Can you tell I don't give a toss??!!
  14. I underwent a colonoscopy yesterday - wednesday in Aust. - I was administered with propofol and fentanyl by an anaesthetist. No problem. Last night and today I'm feeling a bit tired, but otherwise ok. The fact I knew nothing during the procedure, felt nothing, awoke afterwards in recovery .... suited me just fine! :) Both drugs get my vote.
  15. back in the "old days" we'd use: blue for temperature. black for pulse. green for resp. red for b/p. but, that was a loooonnnngggg time ago! those multi-colour pen makers made a fortune!
  16. CONGRATULATIONS on the birth of your grandson! :balloons::bby::balloons:
  17. Hang in there, greatshakes. Small steps and one day at a time. Be sure to stay connected and post and participate here. Wishing you peace and comfort. ((((hugs))))
  18. Dear Greatshakes, I'm so sorry to read that you did not pass the competency. Sorry also for all that you have been experiencing, it's not been easy for you. Sometimes in life; no matter how much we might desire something, it's just not meant to be. Hard as that is to accept and come to terms with, we have to find a way to be at peace with it. I'm sure you are working towards this and I wish you well in finding acceptance and peace. Nursing is not for everyone, we all have talents in some field. I have no doubt that you are a talented person who has much to contribute. I wish you happiness and success in your new directions, whichever way they make take you. Have you considered how you might be able to use the knowledge and skills you have as a basis for working in another area of the healthcare industry? Perhaps there's something waiting for you that you've not yet thought of. Know that: "when a door closes; somewhere a window opens". Hang in there, believe in yourself and don't give up. Please do stay connected, join us over at: http://allnurses-central.com/general-off-topic/ Go to the "Good Morning" thread, it's usually titled by the day and date :) Drop in and join in the chat and get to know the folks, they're a great bunch and even though you may not be nursing anymore, that doesn't matter. Several of us are either retired now or are not even nurses in some cases. No matter, it's being connected to other people albeit via the cyber world. Adds to the richness of our own families and friend's in the "real" world. :) Tho', the folks are real, just at the other side of the computer! Take care and congratulations on your new grandchild! :bby::balloons:
  19. ((((Barb))))) Sounds as though the best option would be to jump ship from where you are and "step outside the square", tackle new challenges, meet new / /more people, dust off the boredom gremlins, GO FOR IT! Better to regret what you do in life than regret NOT having a go. Trust me, Barb, you're still young, it might be a bit scary going out on a limb, but that's where the best fruit grows! Cheers ........ :)
  20. Addit: @ Barb, good luck in finding a job you like, Barb! :)
  21. Nothings changed in WA it would appear! It was like this back in 1976! The way they operate is as if the rest of Australia doesn't exist. Back in the 1970's, you never dare try and educate them to move forward into the modern era! You were promplty told: 'you're not "over east" now!' The arrogance and attitude was appalling! There is a definite "them and us" attitude between WA and the rest of Australia. And, that mindset/attitude comes primarily and predominantly from the west australians!
  22. Sending thoughts, prayers and cyber support to all our members in Queensland affected by the dreadful floods. Hoping you and your loved ones are safe and that this nightmare will soon be over.
  23. I had no idea! Have only just now read this thread. RIP dear Joyce. Condolences - albeit, belatedly - to the family. Sadly, as sometimes happens, our correspondence dwindled, and I feel dreadful about that. I knew how ill Joyce was, we talked about it in our correspondence. Then ... time and events preoccupied our lives and now ..... I'm so very very saddened to read this sad news. I'm glad you enjoyed wearing the T-shirts dear Joyce! :) I'll always remember you. Your generosity was humbling and I'll forever associate "Damages" with you and our critique's after the shows! :) A candle is lit and prayers said. The world is a better place for having you in it. Love ... Grace xxx
