Maryville University FNP Program Recent Student's Reviews
Just good time management, like any other online program. Don't sweat the small stuff, I see students write novels for discussion boards. They want some good info with one or two sources and that's it. There's a lot of group work early on, but the clinical semesters it gets easier. Look for preceptors earlier, esp for peds/ob. Follow the rubrics for assignments. Get involved with online study groups!!!!

Would you nurses like me better if......
Some of the other posters have mentioned this, but I will too. I work in a hospital where tech's are allowed to draw blood. They trained me in their outpatient lab and on the job, for free. If you know where you are planning on working you can call and ask if they allow the techs to draw blood and if so, what kind of training is provided. If they don't allow it, you might not be able to draw blood anyway, even with a phlebotomy certificate, unless you work as a phlebotomist.

Barnes & Noble member?
I use Borders.....the rewards program is free, they send me coupons weekly via email. They also collaborate with other retailers for discounts. If I want to shop at B&N online I use the enternaiment book code for discounts. I'm not familiar with thier rewards program though.

Glucose Parameters for Diabetic Children
Oh my gosh, yes you are right, I meant to say the target gets lower as the children get older, but the targets might be higher for overnight. This is what I get for posting after a few night shifts! My brain doesn't function. Thanks for the correction. I do know that a BG of 180 is not ideal for anyone, even diabetics, but that is a range that I have seen for children throughout most of my research. The range can be higher or lower depending on the child. For instance my son's target was lowered to 80-150 after he had a lot of high bg's. It has also been raised if he has frequent hypo's. It's not set in stone. It's not unreasonable for a small child to have such high targets as 180 if the risks of hypoglycemia outweigh the risks of hyperglycemia. My husband is also a diabetic and he has a much more narrow target than does my son. Thanks again for correcting my mistake!

Glucose Parameters for Diabetic Children
I'm pretty sure if varies by age. For toddlers it is usually 110-180 before a meal and sometimes higher overnight because they worry about them dropping low during sleep. For school aged kids it's higher, and then it increases slightly again for adolescents. My son is three, he's been diabetic since one, and his target range is 80-150. I like this first link the best, it breaks it down by age and HbA1C levels: http://ndep.nih.gov/diabetes/youth/youth_FS.htm#Goals http://www.jdrf.org/index.cfm?page_id=103442#uno http://www.jdrf.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.viewpage&page_id=9F75E4DA-1321-C834-036D59A180E1A0E2

Nursing Student question
I would probably choose A, it would percuss as dullness. Resonance would be heard over normal lung tissue.

Too poor to become a nurse?
Are you able to qualify for financial aid? In your financial situation that may help with most of your nursing school expenses.

HELP! I may need to drop out of nursing school!
I don't see why you can't get a part time job during any shift you'd like once you graduate. Who say's you have to work full time and crazy hours? I look in the jobs posted at the hospital where I work all the time and it seems there's plenty to choose from, even for a new grad.

Are there waiting lists in IL?
The schools I looked into did not have a waitlist. Once you apply (after you meet their app requirements) you are either accepted or put on an alternate list. If you do not get in off the alternate list for the semester you applied for you have to start the application process over. Since all schools are different maybe you can narrow down where you'd be able to go if you were living with/near grandma and contact them. Good luck!

Proud Moms
My family brags all the time. They think it's great that I am finishing up college with four kids, me, someone who barely made it through H.S. It does get a little annoying when my mom says, "how's my "A" student?" In front of nursing school friends, but I know she's just proud.

The nurse who wasn't. Thoughts and comments.
Not to mention all of the people who were unable to get into a nursing program because they were too full. It would be nice if those seats could be open for people who actually planned on using their nursing degree.
