  1. Hang in there! I know it can be frustrating to look for a new job --- I am a new grad, too, and was just hired in a clinic. The pay is less, but the hours are great and I get to spend more time with my family. It took me about a month before I found the right job, and I actually had to turn down offers at a VA Hospital and a nursing home. Just keep applying at places that you are interested in, and before you know it, you will be scheduling interviews. I had several facilities tell me that they prefer hiring new grads, because they are right out of school and have "fresh" ideas and skills. You will find a job soon -- good luck!!

Congratulations on the great news! And good luck with the job search!!
  3. Congratulations! :balloons:
  4. I, too, felt 99% sure that I had failed the NCLEX......but the next day my name was posted on the BON website right next to my license number! The test is set up so that you do miss a lot of questions; as a result, most people walk out of the exam feeling that they have failed. Try to keep yourself busy with fun things for the next couple of days. Be sure to keep us updated! We are all rooting for you!!:icon_hug:
  5. At my school, there are about 200 applicants who take an entrance exam. After you pass the exam, there is a questionnare that you fill out which basically sums up your experiences with patient care and why you want to be a nurse. After that, about 35 people are accepted into the program. So no, at my school there wasn't a certain GPA; it was up to the school who they chose to accept. I went into LPN school with NO patient care background (I had always worked in sales or customer service jobs), so I think the first semester was more difficult for me than other students who were CNA's or MA's. Learning the terminology, meds, etc can be overwhelming if it is all new to you! Nursing school is tough, but you can get through it if you really dedicate yourself to learning and studying hard. Good luck:nuke:
  6. I am a recently licensed LPN with no previous nursing experience, and I was just hired in a clinic after applying online. I had applied for 5 different clinic jobs through the same hospital system, and their HR department was VERY diligent in helping me get interviews. I was very pleased with the whole experience, and would recommend following up with the HR person for the facility you are applying to. Good luck!
  7. :balloons: Way to go! Congrats:nurse:
  8. Congrats on passing boards and on the new baby! What an exciting time in your life! :balloons:
  9. Times sure have changed:wink2:
  10. Thanks for the encouragement! I need it right now!!
  11. Thanks for the replies, everybody. I guess I am just a little discouraged because it looks like it's going to be harder to find a job than I thought (or at least one that will work for my family). Fortunately my husband has a great job, so money isn't the issue right now; I just really want to work as a nurse! I will keep looking -- I hadn't thought about a 3-11pm shift; I think I will check with some of the LTC facilities in my area about that. Thanks again!
  12. Congratulations, nurse!!!:smiley_aa
  13. I am a newly licensed LPN (passed boards Aug 10). I have put my resume in at 6 different clinics in town and also at the vets hospital. Here is my dilemma...I need a job that offers mostly daytime hours. My husband works a lot of weird hours at his job, and I need to be around nights & weekends to care for our daughter. I am afraid that it will be hard for me to find a job with those hours. Where did you guys work when you first passed your boards? Any ideas on other places I can apply that might offer daytime hours? Thanks:wink2:
  14. Thank you for sharing that story. She is a lucky patient to have a special nurse like you! :nuke:
  15. Congratulations!:balloons:
  16. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!:balloons: Isn't it a great feeling?
  17. I passed my NCLEX-PN on Aug 10, and I absolutely felt like I had failed when I walked out of the testing center. I think everybody does! I also got 85 questions, and a lot of my questions were priority and infection control (which I have heard are the higher level questions, so that is a good sign). Try no to worry too much -- and be sure to post a message here when you find out that you passed:wink2:
  18. Try to relax if you can! I took (and passed) my PN boards last week, and I was a nervous wreck the night before I tested. I did some reviewing the day before my test, but I also took some time to just veg out in front of the TV. Just try to have faith in the education that you received, and remember to breathe while you are testing. If you get stuck on a question, just use the ABC's, Maslow's hierarchy, and the nursing process to determine the answer. Good luck! You'll do great:)
  19. I studied mostly from the Saunders CD and probably did about 3000 questions total before NCLEX. I think the best advice anybody can give you is just to do as many questions as possible before the exam so that you are used to the test format and so that you can fine-tune your critical thinking skills. Also remember Maslow, the ABC's and the nursing process when you are taking NCLEX. Good luck
  20. Way to go! Good luck in school!!
  21. I am having a hard time finding a way to change my username. I passed boards last week and have received my license in the mail already. I would like to drop the "LPN2Be" from my name and just change it "LPN". How can I do that? Thanks!!
  22. Does your daughter like Elmo? My daughter (also almost 2) has an Elmo "Let's Play Doctor" kit that came with a plastic stethoscope and thermometer. Elmo talks and asks the child to take his temp, listen to his heart, blow his nose, and fix the "boo-boo" on his foot. It's cute and my daughter has a blast pretending to be a doctor with her stethoscope. I think it was purchased at Toys R Us.
  23. thanks! i took my test on a wednesday and my license # was posted on my state's bon website the next day around 3:00pm. all states are different, though...might want to call your state's bon to ask or check out their website for faq's - that might tell you what you need to know. good luck to you! just remember to breathe when you take the test;)
  24. I'm not sure....yesterday it said "pending" on my state's BON website until about 3:00 & then there was a license # & my status was "active". I'm assuming that your state just hasn't issued the license # yet. Hopefully that won't take too much longer -- it is pretty cool to see your name & license # on the BON website;)
