Child in ICU
No, I wouldn't perceive this as rude as it should be done with all patients.

SICU interview: questions for the manager?
What are the characteristics of the most successful nurses on this unit? What are your expectations of a new nurse on this unit?
-
Stupid mistakes!!!!
When I was in clinicals my instructor taught me to tape the empty vials to the syringes so I would not get them mixed up. I'm not sure you would have time for that in the ER but it sure would beat having to draw it up twice! I know you didn't ask for advice or anything but I'm in the same boat as you....I'm new to all of this too.

freaking out.......
Try to be positive first of all and there is nothing wrong with you! The NCLEX is really a challenge. Keep studying and keep your chin up.

Thank you cards?
I had a interview with a nurse recruiter today for my dream job/hospital. I have read in many threads it is professional to send a thank you card after interviews. What sort of stuff should you write in it without sounding unprofessional and cheesy? I really want my name to stick out in her head as a good candidate to refer to other nurse managers for open positions. Any clues as to what to write? I'm stumped!!!! Thanks in advance.

2nd Interview with L&D yesterday...
I know how nerve racking it can be trying to get the position you really want. I also am having the same experience you are right now. I interview for the hospital of my dreams on Friday. Sorry I have no advice on the job shadowing but I just wanted to say I hope you get the job and good luck!

How soon after graduation did you take the NCLEX?
:yeahthat: I totally agree. Take it as soon as possible. You will be scheduling your test and feel that urge to procrastinate. Don't! Get it over with as the information is still fresh in that noggin of yours.

Mom & Dad were right: I'm a screw-up
Awwww, don't think your a screw up. Nursing is hard work. The tests are like nothing else you've ever had. They like to know that you can apply the facts and not just memorize them as with other tests you may have encountered. Keep truckin on and you'll see that the hard work does pay off. Also, try not to do this :deadhorse . Try instead to think of at least two things that you did very well that day and then work on your problem areas. Keep your Chin up!

Online Applications.
Thanks to everyone who replied.:thankya: I did receive a call from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics this morning. This was my first pick hospital that I had applied to. It's just a phone interview on the 19th but, I feel like nothing can ruin my day considering I have been dreaming of working there ever since I started nursing school. I'm not going to get my hopes up but, this is my dream job for sure!!!! Wish me luck because I want to work there more than anything in the world. :wink2:

Online Applications.
I was wondering what you guys think about online applications. Is it worth it or should I stop wasting my time and do it the old fashioned way of pen and paper. I have put in 5 online applications and have not heard anything back yet except that they got the application. I'm a new grad with no experience and have not had a job in forever. Am I going about this all wrong? Also, I was wondering what I should expect out of a first interview?

Am dreading second year.......
Gals.... your second year will go so fast you will hardly even have time to notice. Don't give up and don't give in. Those are words from my second year teacher and I will remember them with every challenge I may encounter. Don't worry about what those other girls are saying. Keep focused on graduation and how you will feel during that pinning ceremony.:nuke:
