  1. Thanks for the input. I will try to renew it online and let you know the result.
  2. Hi: I am out of the country with my husband. My license will expire in July 2010. I was wondering if I could just wait another year to renew my license. How difficult it is to renew the license after a gap in ACTIVE status ? Any input or suggestion is highly appreciated. -SA
  3. I don't know if people are that ignorant about the differences between Nurses and doctors. Everyone has their reason for not doing what people think is more important but I would say this... 'Doctors are in short supplies as compared to nurses because it is easier to become a RN than a doctor. When something is in sort supplies, it is perceived more valuable than others.' This is simple economics !! Does not matter who is more intelligent or who does more work !!!
  4. I wonder when seeking advice from those who had gone through the exam had became a crime !!! You need a break once a while while you are studying for the exam. I wish you good luck and hope you pass with flying colors this time...
  5. Hi: I took CRNE preparation course in Macwan University Edmonton August 09. It really helped me to understand competencies for Registered Nurses Profession. I am educated in USA and was RN there but did not know what to expect in CRNE. This course gave me some idea about 'types of' questions and also helped me to practice little bit with questions. There were many from Calgary and few from out of province all of those I got in touch with passed the exam in a single attempt. What I used for the prep was: 1. This Course 2. CRNE prep guide 3. Mosby's Comprehensive guide for Canadian RN Exam 3. Lippincot I would suggest you to take this class. It will definitely help you. Good luck...I hope you will pass it this time !!!
  6. yay..........I passed. Thank you GOD.
  7. I called CARNA (Alberta) they are mailing out results this week. Congratulation to all those who have passed.
  8. Have you tried CRNE preparation course in Macwan College. I am going to that class on Aug 31, Sep 02 (3 days). If you know about the other ;Killer Course' with 90% passing rate, let me know. I will be next in line with you. Saroj
  9. The wait is almost over. I found out CARNA mailed my letter yesterday. I will be receiving it may be tomorrow:bugeyes:.
  10. I called CARNA, they told me all my application requirement is complete and went for assessment. Now it will take 3-4 month:bowingpur.
  11. Hi All: I am RN from United States and I recently applied for CARNA Assessment in Feb 2009. I checked my assessment status and they received all the 'required documents' in March 26, 2009 and forwarded my application for full assessment. Just today (May 05, 2009), when I checked my status I found that they updated cleared date on my Preliminary Assessment section. Does anyone has experience what this really means ? Did they approved my preliminary assessment ? Thanks for your help and I look forward to hearing from you. Saroj
  12. Yes, just uninstall the program and install it again. It worked for me.

My wife is going for BS->BSN degree after getting fedup with her computer engg job. I am software ebgineer and I make in the range of $90+/hr in CA. After 50+K of tution and 1.5 years of hardwork, I don't think she will be heppy to know what she will be making when she finally graduates. I know it makes no sense to switch from 'high paying' profession to 'low paying' profession, but we did it because we were just tired of living seperate or getting scared when my assignment will be over !! Peace of mind and being together has no price tag. So people, we all have have our reasons for quitting a job, swiching a job or moving to a new place. All you need is to find your priorities in life. Nursing pay is pathetic but I will not rule out the other nenefits that made us (me and my wife) to lower our pay scale. I am sure it will be worthwhile. Nepsys
  14. Wdwpixie: My apologies if I was being too strong in my response. I am really impressed by the mild and 'constructive way' people answer and 'put their point across' in these forums in allnurses.com. I guess that is what nurses are all about....being humble, caring and comforting. I hope you will find a very fulfilling and satisfying career and be happy when you finally complete your nursing degree. I also wish the same when my wife comes home with a BSN degree. As I said in my earlier response, I believe that 'money will follow you wherever you go if you have desire to work hard but your happyness will leave you where you left it' !! Once again, my apology if I came out too strong when I did not like some of the comments about the 'engineers'. I am sure you know how we can get when we disagree...:-).
  15. I can see why you guys changed you career but don't forget what engineers contribute to the society !! The thing that you guys use to see if the baby's heart rate is normal or the thing that you guys use to save someone's life and feel the satisfaction of being useful in someone's life is also 'somebody elses' creation and a way to contribute to the society'. There is something for everyone to work for and contribute to. It is just that some of us get more satisfaction when it involves a direct interaction with 'the end user'. As for me...I cannot satnd to see the blood but will rock when I see a 'highend, superfast computer'. Is there anything wrong with me...? May be not !! I am not trying to offend or defend anyone but just wanted to let all of us know that we are helping eachother in lot more ways than we actually think. It is the fact whether we like it or not. Cheers !!
  16. I am a software engineer for past 12 years and my wife was also a software engineer until she decided to get into a BS->BSN program about 14 months ago. She had to take couple of pre-req classes before she got admission into the program..... I can understand the deliema you are currently having. My wife sometime get back to me sometime wonder if she made a mistake as I had been offered 3 or 4 times more than what she would make when she finally graduates from her BSN program in May 2008. However, I feel that she had to go ahead....just because I remember those days when she was working as a software engineer. She never enjoyed any moment of that job...she dragged her feet to everything her boss wanted her to do. And the frustration would spill over to our lives !!! She loves the work she is learning and is looking forward to a 'nursing career'. I think we will be lot happier when she is happy with her work and I am happy with mine. I know it is a lot of work and lot of investment specially when you would be making money instead of losing while attending school...but I will recommend to look into yourselves to find the answer to this. Will you be happy in yor life with current job ? If the answer is 'Yes'...just continuw what you enjoy otherwise look for something better to do. Money will follow you with your career but happyness will stop where you leave it....Best of luck... Saroj
  17. Looks like it is as bad as I thought it was. If a RN can make 35+/hr with one year experience, I don't see a reason to complain. As far as the pay for the doctors, I think it is resonable. Afterall, they spend about 6-8 years just to graduate...as compared to 2-3 years for RN and 4 years for engineering. I don't know how the doctors work but they seem to operate like a business when I go to their clinic. Is this a number for full-time employee type doctors ? You seem to have a lot of knowledge about the pay and other benefits in the field. Thanks a lot for sharing that information.
  18. OkieICU_RN: Thanks for a response. $18/hr for RN is certainly better than what I thought was the prevaling wage. However, it still does not make sense for the wage to be that low. When a RN is making $45/hr in LA or San Francisco, the rate in OK should be somewhere in the range of $30-$35. Anyway, I can argue as much as I want; but the reality is not going to change. Can you give me some idea about the pay of a doctor? How much they normally make ? I just wanted to see what kind of gap is there between a doctor and a RN. Thanks again....I am not excatly adding anything to the origional post but I hope it is related to the topic.
  19. I am surprised to see these low numbers for nurses (tech, LPN, or RNs)...given the amount of work and 'responsibilities' all of you take on. Anybody can give a resonable explanation ? I believe in demand and supply when it comes to the pay or benefits. It looks totally different when it comes to this field. A computer engineer in software field can make well above $80-100/hr. That is about 8 techs or 6 RNs; if the data presented here is true (I believe they are) !!! Isn't that horrible ? Any insights ?
  20. Dottimur: Thanks for asking. My wife seem to enjoy her new school and she is very motivated for the new career. I can see how much she loves to go to school and 'learn new things'. It is amazing ! Before she decided to go to nusring school, she was working towards her Masters in Computer. I remember how upset she used to get when there is a presentation or a paper due. Now, she finds it fun ! Isn't that something ? I wish we had known this earlier...But hey, it is never too late. This was not my first visit to OKC but I really did not like it before. This time around it was different !! When we were driving around Edmond and nearby area, I kinda semi-fall in love with the place and my wife seem to enjoy my excitement. It could be that we might decide to move there if our love affair with OKC keep going like this for anothere year !! We could be neighbours... I hope you and everybody in this forum are doing well. I heard it is snowing today !! Enjoy...while it lasts. Saroj
  21. Well, I visited OKC last weekend from LA and simply loved the white stuffs everywhere. I wanted to take my son of 4 years old to a ski place but could not find one nearby. Any suggestions for my next trip ? As for the ice and snow, I do not get to see it that much and did not complain. But my wife really hated it eventhough she just moved there in Jan 2007. But surprisingly, I could not see the 'snow falling' that weekend either !!
  22. Hi: Is this applies to all the RNs from all the countries or just those from India, China and Philipines. I do not understand how this things really works. My wife will be graduating in May 2008 as a BSN and we are from Nepal. I was wondering if she could start her process as soon as she compltes her exam for certification or will have to wait because of this 'retrogression'. Thanks.
  23. This is not my story but my wifes: We are both Computer Engineers; I am little more experienced and she was just starting up. Everyday she went to her office, she felt scared what her boss might want her to start working on. It was really small company and she was the only software engineer and had to do a lot. It is lot difficult when you are new and don't know a lot about how the system works. She got pregnant and had to quit her job. When ahe was pregnant with our second son, she started going back to school for her Master's Degree in Computer Engineering. On her final day of the semeser (she had a paper presentation) she fainted on her way to the school while waiting for the subway(she was 8 months prenant then). We rushed to the hospital and found a wonderful nurse. When she knew how we came to the emergency; she was so kind and helpful. Her words were so hevenly and my wife decided that she will change her career to Nursing and I supported her decision !!! Now she is in Accelerated BS->BSN program and expect to graduate in May 2008.
  24. Hi Teebee and GoodOldNurse: Thanks for such a wonderful advice and the tips for the success. You are dead on the money about the seniors. More people you talk to more confused you get. Everyone has their own perception about 'hard' and 'easy' and one should not draw conclusions just by listening to what others say. However, as you said...it is OK to be scared and panics when you hear it !! I am really touched by the support and advice you guys extend to eachother. I am from an engineering background and had seen fair amount of people around the world as well as fair number of online communities. This place (Oklahoma forum in Allnurses.com) is the best I had seen so far. When I read the posts I can feel the support and concerns from all of you. I sometime wonder how could people be so nice and willing to help when there is so much to do for yourself...Then it hits me...you guys are nurses and 'taking good care of needy' is what you do the best. I really appreciate the support and time you take to listen to eachother and help. Thanks again.
  25. Teebee: The decision had been very very difficult. We even talk about 'backing-out' but we try to put it into perspective and encourage eachother. I even thought about flying there every weekend but that is something I could do anytime I feel like it. Only issue is the money... Thanks for your words and I am glad that you liked it there. Hopefully she will as well. She just started an orientation and seem to be excited about the school. One more thing...how difficult is the accelerated BSN ? Any idea ? She is from Computer Engineering and I am confident that she will be able to get it though but she seem little nervous...specially for the summer classes. SOme of her seniors told her that 'is you can pas the summer school, you can definitely pass the rest of the schooling'. Is this something of a concern ? Thanks again,
