Yeah, both are correct. Utilise is British English and Utilize is American English.

Oops, I accidentally hit the 'd' key instead of the 's'. They're beside each other. I'm actually quite mad at myself for not seeing this. I'm the type of person who reads a post correcting the spelling in my head! I love constructive criticism as I'm always trying to better my spelling and grammar.

A nonsense thread? I'm sharing a quote that I have never forgotten that I read in a math calculations book. Hopefully students or nurses who also read this thread won't forget it too, therefore saving someones life. Hopefully if will help nurses become more confident with their math skills by either asking for a second opinion or revising their math education so I don't think its a nonsense thread.

I don't like when people ask that question when I say I'm going to become a nurse. I sometimes feel as though they want the answer to be "I'm not intelligent enough to be a doctor.. it's too hard". When really, we just don't want to become doctors. We want to nurse! Nurses need to be really intelligent and it is infact a very hard profession. :)

"Why do you want to be a nurse anyway? They're doctors skivvies!" :devil::devil::devil: This was what a friend of mine said to me while I was at the bookstore buying some books on Nursing. I just laughed it off there and then but it only really hit me while I was at home reading the nursing skills book I bought. It has made me so mad that I needed to come straight on here and vent! I don't think in anyway shape or form that a nurse is a doctors skivvie. Nursing is a profession in its own just as medicine is a profession in its own right. People [he included] obviously think nurses are hired by doctors! UGH!! I'm that mad right now I can't continue writing this..! He's in college studying to be an English teacher.. Skivvy: a female domestic servant who does all kinds of menial work. It's used as a slang word sometimes in the UK and Ireland.

I was just wondering would anybody have any recommendations on books to buy before I start my nursing course? I want to go in prepared with some knowledge. I've heard people recommending med-surg books? What are they? What about books on clinicals? Any recommendations would be great!

That really is a disgrace! It's one thing to text while standing idle in the hallway but its just disrespectful to the profession and to the patient to text while actually setting an IV etc. It makes me angry -- and I haven't even started my nursing course!

When I become a nurse I'm going to consider the possibility of working in the Emergency Department/Room (In Ireland we call it the A&E -- Accident and Emergency) I would just like some insight into this area of nursing particularly from an A&E nurse. What do you do on a day to day basis? What are your duties? Even just tell of the main things or if you wish tell me everything. :) Any information will be of great help. Thanks.

Hi, congratulations on getting offered a position. Sorry I can't offer you any information on day or night shifts -- haven't started my course yet. If I was to choose on the spot I'd pick night shifts because I'm more of a nocturnal person. :)

As a student nurse on clinicals or a nurse working in a hospital or nursing home, what items do you carry on your person daily? and what would you recommend to a student nurse on clinicals to carry with them?
