Need evidence based practice help
I am look for some evidence based practice to support or not support: the facilty where I work when a diabetic patient is admitted they forego the pt's home regime and start them on accuchecks ac and hs and novolog premeal. Some of our patients have never been on insulin before and prior to hospitalization were controlled with oral hypoglycemics. Also some were never doing accuchecks as often as we are doing them in the hospital. If you could point me in the direction of some resources to support this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

How is the job market in NYC?
I totally agree with megannyrn regarding the situation in NY for new RNs. If you still want to try, I would suggest researching upcoming job fairs. One source to use for this is advance. They usually of listings of upcoming jobfairs and the states in which they will be held. This way you get to network with many places instead of just flying out to meet with one. Another option is to go on wikepedia, do a search for NY hospitals. You will get a listing of all hospitals in NY, go on each website and search employment opportunities and apply.

NCLEX-RN this morning
I think it would help if you went to the "Pearson Vue trick" thread. Most people who received the message you did, didnt have the "delivery successful" status. Look for this status and try again. Good Luck!!!

New Nursing School Opening (CUNY)
There was information on York College's website. I went there today to copy and paste the link but there is a message that the page is being updated.

New Nursing School Opening (CUNY)
Yes it is true. York college is starting a BSN program in September. They currently have a RN to BSN program, where like any other CUNY school there is no waiting list. It is my understanding that if you've applied and don't get accepted, they do not hold your name over till the next semester or assign you a number on a list of people to call if there is an opening.

Queensborough CC
At QCC, repeating any of the prereq classes (aP1, soc100, psy100, eng101) is an automatic disqualify from applying for the program.

Queensborough CC
Hi, Current NS at Queensborough. I transferred there from LAGCC and have a BA in totally different field.. Prior to applying for the program the only classes i took at QCC were Microbiology and Human growth and Development. I applied for the evening program. QCC requires that Evening applicants complete all prereqs prior to applying. This way once they get in, the only classes they have to take are the actual nursing classes. Even though they do require that u take all prereqs, the only classes they consider in the application process is: AP1, ENG101, SOC101 and Psy101.(None of these classes should be repeated to improve the grade) Just like any other school they look at the grades you received in these classes. They take in consideration if u dropped any class and and took it later, If you repeated any class to improve the grade. As a transfer, where ever you took the AP1 the AP2 should have been taken at the same place. Though its not mentioned anywhere in the application process, I think its only fair for them to consider someone who took all the classes at QCC prior to considering a transfer, if both students' grades are equally competitive.

Choice between LICH, Queensborough, and Beth Israel
Congratulations!! I am also in the evening program going into my third semester. If you attend the orientation on the 25th of August you will get to meet some of the instructors, upperclassmen as well as your other classmates. There will also be additional information available regarding the resources i mentioned before in the previous post.

Choice between LICH, Queensborough, and Beth Israel
I attend Queensborough and absolutely love it. Were you accepted for the morning or evening program? There are a lot of resources available for students. Peer mentors, Practice Lab, Video lab, private study areas, peer tutors. The instructors are awesome, very approachable. So far I have been at 2 clinical areas NYHQ and Jamaica Hospital the staff at both places were very open, to the students our clinical instructors are well respected. My overall experience was thus far has been very positive.

Pre-requisites for a BSN - Lagcc??
Is this a new thing? I attended Lagcc and took A&P I and II (2005)and Biology was not a prereq. I also have a BA in something totally unrelated. Is it possible for you to go to the Department head and plead your case?

LoOking 4 Externship NYC??
You could also try St Francis Hospital in Roslyn

Any Options? What's the best thing to do?
Just wanted to add in a little correction that the CUNYs don't have a waitlist. If you apply in one semester and you don't get in, they don't hold your application over till the next semester. You have to reapply again.

1st Year Nursing Student comes to an end
I have to whole heartedly (is that a word??) agree with every single response here. First semester was a piece of cake compared to second semester. But with a lot of praying, studying, and coffee, I am making my way through it. The hardest part is the time management for me. I am working fulltime and dealing with two kids. The one I gave birth to and the one I married. I am doing the bare minimum at work. I cant even begin to imagine what this yrs performance review is going to look like. At home the dust is soooooo thick on the furniture am gonna have to use a shovel to get it off come this May when classes are done. We haven't ate out of anything that is not plastic/paper since the semester started. Who on earth has time to wash dishes? Plus I got tired of seeing them piled in the sink. All of that said: I absolutely love what I am doing!!!!!!
