  1. The reason I had to take the GRE for my program is because I'm going to be attending an accelerated BSN with the option of a Master's degree. Once you are accepted into the BSN program, you are automatically accepted into the Master's portion as well. It's for that reason that you have to complete a test that is intended for entry into a graduate program. But all is better now-- I took the GRE at the end of January, did OK, and got accepted to Pace at the end of April!
  2. I think that's a great idea. I'll private message you my info....
  3. Wow, I got all the same news yesterday-- Maureen put me in touch with Tiffany, and I finally spoke to the financial aid office, where I learned that I'd be receiving my financial aid package in the next 5-7 days. It's comforting to know that other people are going through all the same motions.
  4. Hey guys! I just got my acceptance package last week from Pace, too. I'm psyched! Has anyone met with anyone for academic advisement?
  5. I haven't been on here in a while so I'm just seeing that you responded to me... thank you! Did you meet with an advisor before you applied to the school?
  6. Hi everyone, I want to apply for Pace University's Accelerated BSN for Fall 2009. I have gotten all A's in my pre-requisites so far and my undergrad GPA (from 2001) is about 3.4. I am scared to death of the GRE. I am not good at taking standardized tests and I'm afraid that I will blow my chances with this one. Obviously I have to take it because it's required, but I'm just wondering-- how heavily is your GRE score weighed? I know it is different for everyone, but I'd like to hear from some Pace students or alumni-- how did you do on your GRE? Merry Christmas!
  7. Hello there, I am an ex-film student who is now cruising through the pre-reqs needed to apply to nursing school. Three down, three to go. My goal is to get into the Pace or SUNY Downstate accelerated program for fall 2009. Pace is my number one choice, but the tuition for one year is approximately 40K. I really don't think it's feasible for me to work during that time, either, so right now I'm taking my pre-reqs at night and working full-time during the week, and trying to put away some cash for the coming year. I'm worried about paying for school AND needing money to live on. How does everyone afford these expensive programs? Does anyone know how to go about applying for a scholarship? Do I apply before I even apply to the school or do I wait until I (hopefully) get in? Any advice would be much appreciated.... thanks.
  8. Thanks for the advice. I started off as non-degree student. I changed to a degree student once I discovered that non-degree students have last pick when registering for their classes. The classes fill up very quickly at LaGuardia, and even if you are a degree student there is a very good possibility that you will be shut out of the classes you want to take. Since becoming a degree student I have had no problems registering for the classes I want to take... until now.
  9. Hello all, I am running into a problem and I'm wondering if anyone on here has gone through the same thing. I'm interested in an Accelerated BSN program in NYC; either Pace or Downstate. Because I have a B.A. in something totally unrelated (film!) I have to pretty much start all over and take about 6 pre-requisites. I have been taking them at LaGuardia Community College, and it's gone pretty smoothly up until now. I have 4 classes left: Microbiology, Chemistry, and Anatomy & Physiology 1 and 2. Well, I just found out that in order to get into the Anatomy & Physiology classes I also have to complete Fundamentals of Biology 1 and 2. Downstate and Pace do not require these extra courses. I don't really want to pay for another 2 semesters of classes that I don't even need for nursing school (plus I don't want to spend another 6 months finishing up these darn things), but I'm nervous that it's the only way I will be able to meet Downstate or Pace's requirements. Does this sound weird to anyone? Has anyone run into this problem? I am looking into other schools in the CUNY system at the moment but I thought I'd ask on here. Has anyone run into the problem of having to take more classes than necessary? Thanks...
  10. haven't logged in in a while and just saw this... thanks so much for your advice.
  11. Well, I should have mentioned before that I have to take SEVEN prereqs before I am eligible to apply for nursing school. If you want to pay per credit, you can only take up to 12 credits as a matriculated student. Anything over that is considered "full-time" and you have to pay a flat rate of $1400 a semester. I can not go to school full-time because I work 9-5, monday thru friday. This whole thing is getting so complicated and I feel like it should be so simple-- I work full-time and I want to complete my pre-requisites in the evening/weekend so I can eventually quit my job and go to nursing school full-time. Why is this so hard????? arggggggghhhh!!
  12. Thanks for sharing. It's soooo frustrating trying to get a straight answer for questions that seem so basic. I hadn't even considered that non-degree students wouldn't be allowed to take certain courses; please let me know if that's true (that would be INSANE if it was!). Anyway, we can't be alone in this, can't we? Surely other non-degree students have had similar difficulties trying to complete their prereqs in a timely manner. The latest development in my story is that I JUST learned this week that non-degree students have last pick when registering for their classes. Arrrggggghhhh.
  13. I was under the impression that the tuition was the same at all the CUNY schools (Hunter, LaGuardia, etc.). As a non-degree student at LaGuardia I am paying $160 per credit. A non-degree student at Hunter is $250 per credit. I should be registered as a non-degree student, correct? I am there to complete my prereqs but I plan on going to nursing school somewhere else. Any advice or input would be appreciated! thanks ali
  14. Hello all, So I'm wondering-- how many of you have taken your prereqs at LAGCC as a non-degree student? I was unaware that I would have to re-apply to the school for Spring Session I (I am currently taking a sociology class for Fall Session II.). I guess it wouldn't be a big deal except for the fact that they won't let me re-apply online; I have to actually go there in person. And to top it off, I have to wait until the end of February to re-apply because I am a non-degree student. The woman on the phone told me that non-degree students get LAST pick when registering for classes. Is this the case at all the CUNY schools? It doesn't seem fair. I don't know; I guess I am half-venting, half-curious.
