  1. Has anyone heard this saying before? How did you respond? I cannot find any sort of policy at my institution for situations like this. I normally let this slide depending on the acuity of the patient. However if its a ICU level, I immediately ask for break relief RN or the charge RN.
  2. Be the role model for those new grads.
  3. Depending on the type of nursing school you are applying to, start reviewing for the TEAS or HESI (or related nursing school entrance exam)
  4. I would want more evidence based research articles/studies for anything marijuana related.
  5. I am happy with the work I do. I am unhappy with most of the people I work with.
  6. Definitely works! My original MedSurg unit became specialized in Oncology. We switched from 1:5 to 1:4. That allows more time to research any new patient's history. I get to be more hands on and less time at a computer.
  7. Keep waiting for your exam. You should go on vacation in the mean time.
  8. To my knowledge, you should research "endorsing your UT RN license" to California. The process takes MONTHS to complete.
  9. If i see family at the bedside, from the get-go, I would just ask "Hi ___ I just got on, and for my clarification, is it okay to discuss details about your care while family members are present?" Most of the time, my patients gives consent.
  10. If the question was asking "What would be your first intervention?" Nasal Cannula would make sense. You are able to contest that question to your professor if you have other classmates with the same thought process and selected answer.
  11. If I get a Neo-Nazi patient; as long as he/she doesn't jeopardize my safety or try to trigger a reaction out of me, then I will continue to do my nursing duty.
  12. I can understand the Emergency Department doing this.
  13. Are there any good come backs for snide remarks of "Well it's YOUR license then"? Especially when you're following policy.
  14. I would delete this. The AN community can be very toxic.
  15. It's better to lose a job rather than lose your license
  16. I would request some form of feed back so you can grow and learn from any mistakes or habits.
  17. One of my hospital's volunteers is applying to her college's BSN program and has requested that I sign and confirm volunteer hours. My nurse manager says any RN can do it independently and has no objections to the matter. I really enjoy working with this volunteer and I am more than happy to support her goals to become an RN. Have any of you signed forms for aspiring pre-nursing students? How was the process like? What is considered "proof of employment"? Is it only a paystub?
  18. Shoot for BSN first. It is the most linear and without extra steps. Only go for ADN if you cannot get into a BSN program.
  19. I bought Adidas Ultraboosts. Comfort over price.
  20. Unless you have legal documentation or citations; you are overthinking it and are NOT REQUIRED to disclose that information
  21. Protect the airway. Then call 911.
  22. I think you answered it; once graduated with an FNP degree, you are able to work bedside nursing (inpatient) to build experience and then work as an FNP when a position becomes available. Also, it appears direct entry MSN programs does teach the BSN portion as part of their curriculum. Thank you!
  23. Hello all, I am starting my research here. I currently have a non-nursing bachelors degree (Biology) and I am curious to know that if I get my MSN for family NP, would I be able to work in bedside nursing (Medsurg or ICU)? Or just only family practice? Location: CA I have applied to both aBSN and MSN (w/o BSN) programs.
  24. Try to get into any BSN program, if you cannot then go JCs route. Difference? BSN is more linear. School > NCLEX > Start your career ADN has an extra step. School > NCLEX > start your career (if you are able to get a job due to hospitals looking for BSN) > back to school 1 more year Consider applying to all eligible CSU nursing programs for BSN (have an open mind in relocating) Yes competition in the Bay Area is very high, but don't let that stop you from applying.
