  1. My confidence was shot after I was let go from oncology. I want something but want to make the best choice
  2. Ultimately I want to go into peds. For now I'm looking for a slow paced job to start. I had no luck in the peds positions I have applied to yet
  3. Hi all so I'm a new grad recently let go from my first job on an oncology unit. Bit off more than I can chew and it ended up causing me stress at work and I couldn't think clearly. Anyway I've been looking for a month and have had some interviews. I was recently offered a job on a palliative care/medical unit with a 7 bed hospice wing. I also recently interviewed on a surgical unit that sees a lot of GI surgeries ( I will find out about that one within a week) I told HR I would consider the palliative care job over the weekend and let them know early next week what I decide. My question is do you think palliative care is a good place to start? I liked the manager and the nurse to patient ratio is 1: 4 or 5 depending on staff and what shift it is. Surgical is the same way. Any advise would help. I want a job soon as I've been super bored for the past month but also want a job I can thrive in. Thank you!
  4. Update: I was called for an interview on a medsurg unit at the same hospital. Interview is Tuesday at 9 am!!
  5. Nurse-patient ratios depends on day or night and the staff available. Days can be like 1:4-6 and nights could have been up to 7. I should have declined the offer when I heard that but I was too excited about the offer. I made a mistake but I learned from it. Thank you for your feedback
  6. Yeah I agree. I wish I gave myself more time to think about the patient acuity. It's a learning experience for sure
  7. What are your thoughts on an obervation unit? Would that be a good floor for a new grad? I applied to ortho and med surg so far
  8. Thank you for all your kind words. I'm applying to a couple of jobs at the same hospital. My recruiter sent my name to two nurse managers on med surg units. Thanks again everyone! Your support means a lot
  9. I gave myself 2 days to consider the job offer.
  10. I accepted the first job offered without really taking time to think about it. I only gave myself 2 days and that wasn't enough time. I wasn't making progress and was making mistakes.
  11. Hi all so I am a new nurse who stupidly took a job on an oncology unit. I was informed today that they released me. I had a feeling it was coming being at I was making mistakes out of nervousness. I was thinking about resigning as well but it hurts so dang much right now to know I was fired. I don't know what to do... any advise is appreciated. Thank you
  12. Hi all, I recently graduated from nursing school in May (yayyy!!!) I take my NCLEX on June 13th. I have been doing questions daily and recently increased in to 70-100/ day (side note I am not the type of person who can study all day. Never was. I take breaks...like alot) I'm doing Uworld 90 day plan and NCLEX RN Mastery.(I use Uworld more but I use both to help reinforce info) I also use my Saunders comprehensive review and HESI RN book as references. I take notes on the rationals and am looking at lab values, therapeutic ranges, and electrolytes, I also am looking at the 35 page review guide that has been going around. I am starting to get very discouraged. My scores on Uworld are 50-60% with some in the 70's and a few in the 40s. Do you have any tips for how to go about this? Also how much of the NCLEX is critical care? I seem to not know much about vents and I'm worried the nclex will ask about it.
