Pills in Baggies...

I'm so DONE with parents sending unmarked, unlabeled pills in sandwich baggies with no note, no nothing. I understand not knowing the full ins and outs of medication administration policy but wouldn't COMMON SENSE tell you NOT to send unmarked, random pills in a baggie with your child?!?

Also, just got to investigate my first forged doctor's note. Ugh. I'm so done adulting today.

Adulting is SO overrated

I have had parents send in ritalin that way on several occasions then want to argue about it. The argument stops very quickly when i point out that if the same were observed by police that the student would be arrested for illegal possession of a controlled substance. I go on to tell them that in this state there is little distinction between otc meds and rx meds. In actuality there can even be little distinction between those meds and illegal drugs if push comes to shove, but it rarely does.

I love when my kids come to me, hold up their baggie and say "I came to take this". Pretty sure you just blew it for your mom kid. This has happened with everything from antibiotics to Tylenol to Benadryl.

In all seriousness, this is how kids get accidentally poisoned. You have a bag of goodness-knows-what and you share it with your buddy. Or they take them on purpose. Parent isn't thinking about the liability...

Every time I see pills in a baggie, I want to quit!!! The worst is pills wrapped in a paper towel with pocket lint stuck to them.

I had these issues too. As of now I have three medications I confiscated in my drawer for the past year, one is penicillin, which I told the teacher because she freaked out at the student having a pill next to her at lunch, another one was a small container of liquid antibiotic, and another one is an inhaler a student brought and actually didn't need but since last year she used it, her mom thought it was appropriate to bring it again and tell me to give it to her and got mad at me because I told her I can't.

I had a 5 year old Kindergarten student on Friday pull a purple pill out of her pocket and tell me "Mommy told me to take this at lunch. It's for my sneezing and itchy eyes". I called mom who right away said "I know I shouldn't have done that. Bad Mommy! Sorry, it won't happen again, but can you give it to her just this once"? NOPE!! Mom was annoyed.
