did not pass the cpne for the third time

someone please help me, i feel like an alien right now, i just failed out of the excelsior nursing program, did not pass the cpne for the third time because of a nursing dx of readiness for enhanced fluid balance for a pt that i was told repeatedly by my clinical examiner and charge nurse had contrast retention from barium swallow with contrast and was having frequent stools, anyway thats not the point what i want to know is will i be able to take my distance learning credits and transfer to a traditional college which seems to be my only option right now, i am an 5-year lpn, have had great learning experiences in nursing and am comfortable and confident in my bookwork and pt care, someone please talk to me.:crying2:

Moved to the Distance Learning forum so that you can hopefully get some of your questions answered. Good luck to you!

have you checked with ISU? I know they have an LPN to BSN option that's still distance learning as well. Maybe try to call them or call EC and ask them if they know of any schools the credits would transfer to for nursing???

so sorry this has happened to you, that is one thing i'm most worried about myself!

Definitely look into ISU: Indiana State University: LPN/LVN to BS Program -- from the experiences I've read, it is an excellent program.

I am so sorry you didn't pass. Please remember: the CPNE is an exam, nothing more. It is NOT a measure of your excellence as a nurse.

I have no advice for you but I wanted to say I'M SORRY!!!

What your are going through is what all of us fear most, and honestly I admire your courage. Thank you for sharing your truth with us. Thank you for showing me that if I do fail, I will not die! If I fail, I will still be a nurse. If I fail, I will find a way, perhaps a better way to reach my dream. I commend you for trying until the bitter end. I can only hope that if I too do not pass EC, I have the fortitude of you, to keep trying.

Thank you!

I would not get your hopes up about the EC nursing credits transferring anywhere. Look into ISU, that is probably your best bet right now. Another possibility is WGU. Their LPN to BSN program is up and running in CA and TX, if you live in one of those states. Don't let this stop you.

I am so sorry that you are going through this. The CPNE is a real monster and non EC nurses often underestimate it's complexity. You failed an exam it does NOT make you a failure as a nurse. Thank you so much for being honest about what has happened to you and hang in there. What state do you live in ?

I'm just sorry for what you're going through. I'd like to echo what Lunah said: The CPNE is just one exam - and it is one with lots of picky, minute details. I'm glad that you're continuing to look for options to continue your education.

Have you talked to anyone in advising yet at EC? I finished a few years ago, but it seems like there might have been some kind of readmission/appeal procedure for people in your situation, at least after some time had passed. You might be so sick of the CPNE that you don't want to even think about it, but I think it's smart to at least check into what all of your choices are.

thanks for all whom give encouragement and support, I live in new jersey and I am appealing this. I was failed for writing a diagnosis in the planning phase of Readiness for fluid balance enhancement for a pt with barium contrast retention, whom was given a stool softener and laxative to remove the contrast.

Did they fail you on the wording, or the concept? It's "Readiness for Enhanced Fluid Balance," right?

so sorry. i don't know what to say. please don't let this stop you from becoming an rn. good luck. i hope you succeed with your appeal.

((Hugs)).So sorry to here that you were not successful with Excelsior. As far as classes being tranfered, it can happen. I am in a RN-BSN program and they gave me credit for Transitions to professional nursing. It exempted me from having to take the very first nursing class in the program. Not sure if undergraduate would accept classes from the program but it won't hurt to try. Good luck in the future and please don't give up on your dream of becoming a RN.
