Nov 14, 200916 yr No they are very basic salaries in some parts of the country and actually a bit low for experienced RNs. In my area, southern New England a new grad would make that amount without OT, shift or weekend diffs.
Nov 14, 200916 yr They may be the salaries in the larger cities. They are a little higher than in my area, but not by much.
Nov 14, 200916 yr Yeah, those things are never accurate; just like Salary Wizard and all the rest of them...there are even ones that claim to estimate your income by your area...the one that predicted for my area was more than twice as much as what is accurate.
Nov 14, 200916 yr I went to two interviews for a large inner city hospital aka teaching facility and both times (the same hospital) they offered me 26 dollar per hour for a day shift, 28.5 dollars for evening shift and and 30 bucks for night shift and weekend rotation at 33 dollars..I live in Chicago so the living cost here is HIHG and I mean high. When I did my calculation I estimated that I would make 57 thousands dollars per year and that is before taxes.
Nov 14, 200916 yr Yes, median salary. In my area, south central Indiana, that is experienced >5 yrs and overtime...but our cost of living is very low/reasonable
Nov 15, 200916 yr As ocankhe already said, that's the low end for New England, too. I made considerably more than that my first year of nursing at a big city hospital, but the cost of living here is outrageous.
Nov 15, 200916 yr They are about right on for the Southwest for an RN with approx 5 years experience.
