Nurses and Coffee

I know this is random, but I was just sitting here thinking about coffee...then I started to wonder if any nurses out there like coffee and starbucks as much as I do :) I know a lot of nurses have to work crazy hours, and I was just wondering if you need coffee to function at those odd hours.

If you do like coffee/starbucks, what's your favorite drink from there?

Monster in the lie can is my choice of morning beverage.

I had a vanilla latte mccafe from mcdonald's yesterday :) it was pretty good.

Another thing again was this- after figuring how many calories some of these modified coffee beverages carry:uhoh3:, I decided to stick to just plain strong brewed coffee and use my calories elsewhere.

I didn't start drinking coffee until my 3rd year on nights-drank a lot of diet coke prior to that.Always had half hospital coffee and half hot chocolate-only way I could tolerate it! I like a mocha with a shot of caramel (sometimes called a Milky Way)

Kicked the diet coke and coffee habit about 6 months ago.

Started drinking tea from Teavana. Chai teas and black teas are naturally caffeinated, and don't give me the jitters. I like the idea that the teas have some antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and that the tea can be used 2-3 times before throwing it out. I drink tea when i have cravings for something sweet, and there is such a wide selection and next to no calories. Weight loss was a welcomed side effect!

And most importantly, tea tastes WONDERFUL!

I remember picking up the coffee habit as a nursing student (that was a very long time ago). We had to be at the hospital to listen to report at 6:45 a.m. and the coffee was what got me going in the morning. I still need that caffeine jolt in the morning but grind and brew my own specialty coffee that I purchase in a local market.

I have tried Starbucks several times and find it nasty and bitter tasting. I have tried Starbucks at different locations and even different types and it still leaves the same taste. Coffee should not taste bad/bitter if it is made from quality beans.

my husband bought us a keurig coffemaker...

the coffee is sold in individual pods, but makes the best, BEST coffee around.

as good as dunkin donuts.

i'm hooked.

What a nice happy thread. So different from nursing. :)

I buy Land of a Thousand Hills coffee online; the espresso blend (Vooba Vooba).... it is to die for; the smoothest coffee I've ever had, and I make it reallllllllllllllllly dark. The company pays the coffee farmers a good wage, even above Fair Trade.... so I really like supporting them.

Second choice is Dunkin' Donuts Dark. I agree with some of the other posters, I find Starbucks coffee too bitter and burnt tasting.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....... can't wait til morning to have some!

I love coffee and can't imagine if I'd have to go without it. I love Dunkin Donuts coffee.

I love Starbucks peppermint mocha!! But...I had to cut it out for weight watchers. So goodbye mocha, hello green tea! Green tea is great too, no cals, keeps me awake at night!:)

I love this thread. The first thing I do when I get to work is fill up my 22oz. mug. My hospital has the best instant coffee makers in the lobbies and breakrooms - so yay for free! I like my coffee really hot, really strong, and black. Yum. 2 or 3 of my huge mugs will get me through a shift. And will probably also kill me eventually. ;)

Loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees me a good cup-o-joe!

Most often, its Stop & Shop brand Expresso (for those of us who are New Englander's), with just a bit of cream and one splenda. When I shell out, its Dunkin, hands down. Especially during the fall-I do love their Pumpkin Spice flavor shot in my medium regular!

Ghirardelli makes some good coffee too. We usually find it at Home Goods.
