Nurses caps!

Heck at least there WAS underwear, our facility had to have a 10 minute inservice lecture to TELL people they NEED TO WEAR UNDERWEAR.

You could always wear the white ballcap with a big ol' RN embroidered on the front of it. Heck, I'd wear that before I'd ever wear one of the "traditional" nurses caps (never have, never will!), and I'm not even a guy.

Yes, many of the nurses in Japan (I am from Japan) still wear caps and dress uniform with white hose. You like that way? HOw interesting!

It's really up to you. I've seen one older nurse wear one and she wears it all the time. A long time ago that's how to distinguish a nurse. I'm young so I don't like it. It's basically personal preference.

First I am a guy and I don't think I have ever seen a nurses' cap made for men!!

Second, just for me, it symbolizes the "old school" when nurses mopped floors, did windows, etc. (some of us may still do that just to help out, not sure) and were really treated like the doctor's handmaidens.

I think our behavior, knowledge, skill, and contribution to patient outcomes distinguishes us as nurses, hope so anyway, it does in my hospital. Just my humble opinion..

I work with a nurse who still wears her cap

no way, not my thing! I went a university so I never wore one. I do, however, have a cape from then 1940's from the school of nursing (no longer open) affiliated with the 1st hospital where I practiced. My mom gave it to me when I completed one of my certifications. It 's a peace of history. I wish I knew more about it. I did work for few women who wore theirs proudly, but one used her's like a crown, to put people down. My other supervisor was elderly, but worked like a young women until her retirement, then death in our hospital. She looked strange without her cap, cross pin, & ortho shoes. But I work in critical care where what I really need is a bonnet to keep the filth off of my hair when I crawl under beds & around lines & tubes to hook things up...shoe covers too!!!

I worked with an older nurse who loved her cap. Facility tried to "gently" encourage her to leave it at home. She still wore it. Then they demanded she not wear it. Took her 1 second to quit. They immediately backed off. She's still there and still wearing her cap. I'm glad they dont make everyone do this, but KUDOS to her for standing up for her rights!

yep i admire that nurse for standing up for her right to wear the cap.

just because I HATE THEM does not make it right for facilities to ban them...

our scrubs are much dirtier than a cap would be, I would bet.

The only time I wore my nurse cap to work was as a joke. My nurse manager was going on leave for a few months to complete her degree and the staff wanted to come in on her last day looking like "real" nurses. We came in that day in starched whites and caps. Dammed uncomfortable. Well the reaction we got. The patients loved it, the other department loved it, the DON was so happy she was in tears and the entire administrative staff came to the floor to see us. Same nurses. Same level of care. Diffrent package.

Would I wear on on a regular basis. No way. People are paying for the knowledge in my head not what sitting on top if it.
