Sep 27, 20187 yr Since when does a small stud on the side of my nose reflect my ability as a nurse?I've had it on since the beginning of the school year and several other teachers have one too.Of course I am not petty enough to throw em under the bus, but really? Now if I had the septum or eyebrow or snake bites then yea, I can understand but a stud the size of ball point pen? Okay, vent over.
Sep 27, 20187 yr Ug. I don't think you need to call out other employees by name, but I would mention that you are not the only one.
Sep 27, 20187 yr Author Ug. I don't think you need to call out other employees by name, but I would mention that you are not the only one.I considered this for a moment but knowing the power trip principal I have, she'd probably call a meeting and inspect every single employee in this campus.I just find it ridiculous.
Sep 27, 20187 yr I'm itching for some tattoo expansion onto my arms and/on legs/feet, and this is exactly why I've been stagnant on it. The judgement is real.
Sep 27, 20187 yr Wondering if it came from a parent complaint? Some administrators will bend over backwards to please parents.
Sep 27, 20187 yr Author Wondering if it came from a parent complaint? Some administrators will bend over backwards to please parents. No, the secretary asked her something in regards to piercings and I think that's how she "figure it out"...

I'm surprised she hasn't said anything about the ying yang on my wrist.I just personally feel that if it's nothing offensive, then what's the big deal?
Sep 27, 20187 yr So many of our employees have tattoos and our AP has a nose ring. Our Handbook does say our tattoos need to be covered but a lot of us have them showing and had no issues.

Sep 28, 20187 yr I think I would have a lot more to focus/worry about than what you are describing. In my mind I think it would feel like a booger stuck in my nose all day and think... Oh how do you get over that feeling.
Sep 29, 20187 yr Glad you mentioned it so I can have the opportunity to tell you seeing that with the oily nose and the grime under it when it moves.Well very unappealing, dirty, greasy looking..so since you asked. No place for it around sick , germ laden hospitals.

This makes no sense.

Okay, vent over. It does not affect you ability to perform the essential functions of a nursing professional. It does however effect your image as a professional in the culture of where you work. Are you a person who can follow policy even when others are not? Do you even know what your companies policies are? Are you a person who believes it is ok to break rules as long as others are doing it as well. Some rules don't always make sense but they still have to be followed. Your answer will be to look at the dress/apperance code of your facility workplace. If the type and location of piercings is specifically mentioned and you like your job and want to keep it then change will become necessary. If there is no specific language regarding piercings then you take that back to your manager and show them that you are not violating policy. For example our company dress and grooming standards specifically state. Piercings: One small stud in the ears only, no hoops or dangles. Hair color is a natural human color. All tattos needs to be able to be completely covered while at work. I'm not saying these rules are right but they are the rules and a small price to pay for working a job that I adore. Hppy
