Let's Talk about you!

This may be in a thread somewhere but I am curious... How long have you been a nurse? What degrees/certifications do you hold? Would you do it all again if you had the chance?

I'll start! I've been a nurse for 15 years and I have my BSN +my School Nurse certification. I am contemplating going back for my MSN but I'm not sure it is worth it!

I don't know how to be anything other than a nurse and I'm not sure I would want to be anything else :) but I'm not sure I would do all the schooling again! I would have to find another way to become a nurse lol

I've been a nurse for 5 years, this is my 3rd in school nursing (started out in acute care on a transplant floor---which I really loved on the good days but those were few and far between.) I have a BSN, hoping to take the national certification exam within the next year.

I don't know if I would choose nursing if I could do it all over again, but I really don't know what else I'd seriously pursue. If/when our family situation allows, I will be a SAHM. That's where my heart really is in this stage of my life (so I'm extremely grateful to have the schedule that I do!)

I've been a nurse for almost 6 years (LVN & RN) & have my ADN & BSN degrees. :bookworm:

This is my 5th year as a school nurse, the only thing I have ever done as a nurse.

I am about to start classes for CWCN (certified wound care nurse) & hope to be completed by August 2016!! ;)

I would absolutely do it over again, but would have done it much sooner then when I did!! :yeah:

I have been a nurse since 2010. I worked first at a call center doing phone interviews for people applying for insurance (no fun) and then a couple SNFs.

I began working as a school nurse in March of 2012 while keeping a part time gig at an SNF (since they pay cracker crumbs).

In 2010 I graduated from an ASN program and I just finished my BSN! Woo! My next educational step is to become certified as a school nurse. Hopefully, after I am done with that I will be able to stop working 2 jobs and then I'd really be able to enjoy my summers/holidays off.

Before becoming a nurse, I worked as a hairdresser and a waitress.

I have been a nurse since 1990. First career choice, and would never consider anything else, it is really my gifting. Have an ADN, as back then it was the mantra of nurses to be grandfathered in, yeah, right. Only regret would be not getting BSN pre-kids, though I appreciate my clinical skills that my ADN afforded me. Must say, BSN prepared nurses are woefully lacking that, but are made to fake it until they make it now that they are employed with license in hand.

I've been a nurse for 5 years. First year as a school nurse. Previously worked public health and med/surg. I have my BSN and am currently in school for my MSN in Informatics. I think if I could do it all over again, I would just go straight into IT. As it is, I think I'll enjoy nursing IT, but I don't think it's something I would do again.

Though, I do enjoy school nursing a lot.

I have been a nurse for 10 years. I worked the obligatory 1.5 years on a critical access med-surg floor, spent 5.5 years as an ER nurse, and have worked as a school nurse for the past 3 years. I also started working as a charge nurse at a summer camp for adults and children with physical and/or developmental disabilities last year, and plan on doing the same this summer.

I have a Bachelors of Science in Health- Athletic Training with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology. I worked as a certified athletic trainer for 4-5 years (I think?) before I stopped working entirely to be a stay at home mom to my 26-weeker preemie kid so she didn't have to go to day care. I also have a Masters in Counseling (never practiced as a counselor though). I got my ADN in nursing at a local community college. I have some classes done for my BSN, but I am not in any hurry to finish that right now. I have a kid in college and her education has taken a back seat to mine at this time. I used to be a CPR and PALS instructor.

I am happy with my decision to become a nurse when I did. I enjoy nursing (for the most part), like my current place, and I like my camp.

My ideal job is to be a back-up singer in a rock band. But I really don't have the pipes for it, and my kids have really tied me down, man.

I graduated with my ADN in 1991. I used to have ACLS and Trauma Certificates when working at Cardiac Rehab, but I have let those lapse. This is my first year school nursing and I'm pretty sure this is what I will be doing until I hang up my hat. I'm not sure if I'd do it all again... its been a bumpy ride. I would, however, get more schooling back in '91 when I was a single mom and had lots of financial aid options.

I graduated from a diploma nursing program in 1974. I've had many nursing positions from hospital staff to doctor offices and private duty. When my youngest started school, I have 5 grown children, I started to sub in the local schools. I did that for 17 years and loved it. In 2012 I was hired at a private high school as the full time school nurse. I have since been put on a 28 hours per week schedule with Fridays off. I love school nursing but I am sorry I did not get my BSN when I was younger.

And if money was no object I would chase tornadoes for a living!!!! :roflmao:

I was so thankful that I got my ADN first! I went back for the BSN after I had been working a few years. We noticed a difference in our nursing students when I was working in the hospital when it came to comparing the ADN students with the BSN kids.

I guess I should mention that of my 15 years as a nurse, I have worked as a telemetry nurse in the hospital, a GI nurse in an office, and my current gig as a nurse to the schools :) I have been waking up each morning for my current position for the past 7 years!
