Maybe someone with the time and desire can try to convince Oprah's staff to do an expose on nurses and how we are treated? My opinon is she is a corporate suck-up and wont touch this.

Don't waste your time or energy. Oprah is a farce... and always has been.

...well, maybe if we got a "big name" nurse or two, but who is willing to go public on national TV? I don't think Oprah would touch it but we could be wrong.

Dr. Phil only did a special on nurses b/c he stuck his foot in his mouth by saying that he's seen a lot of "cute little nurses" hooking up with doctors so they won't have to work anymore. I doubt Oprah would touch this. Perhaps we should try muckraker Marvin Zindler.

I have considered the Opah Show numerous times myself! I think if Oprah did a show on the nursing shortage, and what
"Real Nurses" have to say about it--- We would finally get Someones attention! Maybe a lot of people-- maybe the entire nation! I say do it!! Big name nurses- wont tell it like it is, I'm afraid. They need to hear from us peons working in the trenches! But I'm sure there may be retaliation from employees- who won't want their employees to be associated with it - because it will make them look bad. They will probably find a way to "terminate your position"
Similar to what happens when word gets out that someone is talking about unionizing!

Ophra I think indeed did a show on nurses in the past.
She does a wide variety of topics to suit herself. I think it is a good idea to call and I encourage that, but just because she doesn't take up your cause is no need to disrespect her.

Oprah DID do a show on nurses once.......I am not a big fan, but I have to be fair. She is very good at championing so-called "little" guys on her show at times......as well as celebs. Her show is very diverse in subject matter.

She also did plenty of sensational shows about "druggie nurses" or dangerous nurses. Face it, talking about the nursing shortage just isn't sexy enough for Oprah.
Besides, I would rather see a reputable news show handle this problem. I don't think Oprah has the chops to handle this seriously.
(My fantasy: Mike Wallace showing up at some hospital admin.'s office and saying, "Hello, I'm Mike Wallace, and I'd like to ask a few questions...")

Actually you have a good point - I was thinking the same thing. This needs to be on something besides a daytime talk show.
Although I am not a fan of old Mike.
But what exactly do you all want the show to be about? I'm not exactly sure I'm in a crisis mode as a nurse.

Let's be reasonable. I love Oprah but I realize that she has no obligation to save the nursing profession. I am not a big fan of us begging someone else to help us or to save us, it sounds so weak.
And ditto to the observations about Oprah doing a wide variety of topics. I in particular am grateful for her shows and her activism in Africa. Anyone who claims that she doesn't have the chops to handle serious subject matter has not watched her shows.
You are so right Sharon.
