I was sent information and I applied for it my first year here (before I knew better), but my school didn't get selected. I haven't looked into it to try again, because like the other said, I'm not sure it would be helpful, only cause more issues.

I guess, but I had no option this year sadly since my AP was the one who did it, but hey free thermometers for parents. Lots of my kids here are low-income, so a free one would be beneficial for them.

Several in our county did the program including me. I mainly signed up so the families who could not afford a thermometer would be able to get one for free. However, these were not the families who signed up to get a free one of course. I had about 40 families out of 400 request one. You have to have a smart phone to download the app, register your family, and sync your thermometer to it. Then to use the thermometer you have to open the app in order for it to tell you what the child's temp is. You can't just pop it in their mouth and expect it to show you. Then you can add any symptoms your child has.

We had maybe a fourth of the families that got a thermometer use it last year. This year none so far. As the nurse, you can register your school and add comments about what is going around if you wish.

I've never had one call from parents about the thermometer or what's going around. If every single family participated then it would be nice to see exactly how many kids in each grade are sick with whatever but since very few do it's really not worth it. And no you cannot track lice. Lol!

The thermometers don't seem to be the best of quality. Also I thought it would be cool if I could somehow show how many kids were sent home with flu like symptoms or whatever in each grade but it just registers me as one person plus I'd have to sanitize it well between each child as there aren't any covers for them so I don't use mine. They said they made a few tweaks to the program to improve it from last year but to be honest I no longer use the app due to such little parent participation.

Exactly. About half of my parents don't even bother to take their kid's temperature (despite having a thermometer) before seeing the provider with a cc: fever. Magic hands I guess.

The newest video does indeed show that lice can be tracked, and also that you can see the amount of kids out in the specific grade your child is in. Knowing my families, I agree that there are probably many who would not follow through and participate, and others that would be calling me every time something new popped up in their child's class, as I already get quite a few nosy phone calls already! ;-)

wow lice? I don't see that in my phone. But like someone said, not a lot of my parents use it so I'm like, whatever. At least free stuff for all.

After reading through this it refreshed my memory of what in the heck this was- I remember getting an email a few years ago encouraging me to apply for the free thermometers that go with the smartphones. I was temtpted as one of the most common excuses I hear in a day when a kid drags themself into my office and tells me they've been sick for days and haven't done ANYTHING at home about it is that they don't own a thermometer. I thought - oh, this may do. Then I thought about the panic inciting app that this may bring about. Uh naw bro - I'm good. I'll just continue to gently suggest Walmarts 5 dollar special. I think that was the same year I got my Vera- Temp.
