As I've read the board, we've spoken a lot about things like pay in 'our area', or traffic, or things that are very localized.
Problem is, in the poster's profile, they don't have their state listed!
I don't imagine it's a security concern (just don't mention the city or anything), but anywho, just wanted to see if anyone else out there shared my frustration
I love the discussions but sometimes it's very hard to get the full value of your posts in a thread about salaries, etc. because you could be in NY or the boondocks!
Hopefully I haven't offended anyone

I agree.
I don't have my state listed either. Call it paranoia.

I can understand not wanting to post the state of residence. Security and identity purposes.
Some who ask specifics about states will need to post in their state forums and not in the General Nursing and/or specialty forums. That way, we can better address their issues.
That'd be nice :)
I just wish the salary threads could be moved that way, it's so frustrating trying to get value from the posts where there is so much said, but no reference to the state to compare
I guess I'll make it a point to make sure to ask any time I'm not sure. Call me the self-appointed, "Where do you live" czar!

If a questions is specific about a state, then I try to move it to that forum, but if someone asks what are the slaries in your area for -----, then it is hard to do.
It is also hard even with states, example, look at the differences even in CA, where there is quite a difference between the high and the low, depending on geographic locality.
The other issue is that many new nurses or students think that salary is different depending on the area in which you work, hospitals pay the same range for a new nurse or one with experience, it will depend on years of experience as well as certifications. They do not pay different if you work OR vs. ICU or ER. Same rate of pay ranges.

Even by STATE, the pay and cost of living varies. Perfect example:
Chicago versus the State of Illinois. So it can't be even state specific, really, to help anyone.
True, but it at least helps provide a baseline of sorts :)
That said though, is there a way to delete this message? I think the problem is solved if I just stop being lazy and start asking

I agree GilbertDaddy that it would be nice if people would post their location, it kind of puts their posts in perspective in several ways, especially if they are asking questions are located in another country. But I allow people their reasons for not doing so.
hmm....I can't remember if I even have my location posted? (edit: Nope, I don't have my state listed. opps. But my middle age is proudly visible. LOL)

As long as you agree not to be offended if some people do not feel it is any of your business where they live. I, for one, do not think it is a good idea to post locations. Remember, this is where many nurses come to vent -- it would be a terrible shame if that were to be used against them because someone figured out who they were.

Hey Tweety you are young. Really. Since you are only five years older than me, you better still be young.:chuckle
Personally, I don't really care about localities, it's just when folks post something vague like "where I live..." in response to a thread and never specify, well... WHERE they live (work, went to school, grow corn, etc.) :)
It really only applies to probably 1% of posts, but if someone posts saying that LVN's make 90 dollars an hour "where they work" but never points out where they work, well.. we can't read minds That'd be the only time I'd ever care, and at that point, the poster kind of put themselves out there for such a question

Well, sort of.
2 hours away i could be making 10,000-20,000 more a year Granted, cost of living is higher there, but that's a vast difference in such a short distance.
