I don't understand how Nurses are happy..

First, I truly respect Nurses and I am in awe of how they can handle so much on a day to day .. Nurses are very smart and great multi-taskers

I have tried to talk myself into going back to school to become a Nurse and I can't do it. I work on the Nursing units everyday as a Clinical Documentation Specialist and the hard work involved in Nursing is unreal. 12 hr shifts and then overtime required in order to make the 60,000 plus salaries just doesn't seem worth it to me. Not to mention always watching your license from being taken etc etc.

Although I am 30 and have a family I think I would rather spend more time in school and become a Pharmacist or something that does not require such direct contact with people.. Good luck to all of you pursuing Nursing.

Hey, you need to do what makes you happy. I am not happy about the sorry shape of health care. However, at the end of the day, I simply see it as a job. I realize the things that make me happy cannot be found at work.

Nursing isn't for everyone.

Good luck in whatever career you decide to pursue. :)

I would suggest you google "the angry pharmacist" and read his blog a bit before you decide that pharmacy lacks contact with people. It's very um, enlightening.

NURSES ARE NOT ALWAYS HAPPY BUT THEY KNOW WHAT THEY DO IS IMPORTANT. THEY KNOW AT THE END OF THE DAY A LITTLE GOOD WAS DONE HOPEFULLY. THAT IS NOT TO SAY IT IS SOMETIMES A THANKLESS FRUSTRATING GUTWRENCHING MIND BOGGLING JOB. I DID HEMODIALYSIS FOR 21 YEARS AND REALLY GOT BURNT OUT. RIGHT NOW I OWN AND OPERATE AN ASSISTED LIVING HOME FOR THE AGED. MY HUSBAND THINKS I AM DEPRESSED AND NEED TO GO BACK PART TIME TO REGULAR NURSING.I KNOW SOMETIMES I AM SAD AND FRUSTRATED NOT WITH THE PEOPLE I CARE FOR BUT FOR THE SYSTEMS THAT REGULATE US. WE SEEM TO BE DAMNED NO MATTER WHAT. ENOUGH IS NEVER ENOUGH!

The choice is often "laugh or cry", and I choose to laugh.

It has it rewards too, and the good does outweigh the bad!

Cheers!

Nursing is what you make of it. I feel if you choose to make it a miserable profession full of no satisfaction and sadness etc. It will be.

I choose to see it as helping people, i work with for the most part a great bunch of people who i choose to be around. I laugh at work, i cry at work and when i have to cry i have people around me that support me. As i support others when they cry. I get crazy busy, do my job and always go home at the end of the day a little tired but satisfied i have done the best i could do with what i had. I get frustrated but it passes.

Just did this and oh...my...Lord.:uhoh21:

I am a true believer that nursing is a calling. If you do not have that "calling" being a nurse would be the most miserable job there is. No matter what you do, the highers ups will be clueless, you will have coworkers that make you scream and customers that test you to the max. But at the end of the day if you feel you have made a difference in the world, it is all worth it. I don't fault you at all for realizing that nursing is not for you. Good luck on whatever you decide to do. :)

I love that guy's blog! Makes me laugh and feel sad at the same time...

kgard7777 is someone trying to convince you to be a nurse or have you been trying to convince yourself?

good question xigris79 - I'm curious, too

It's a love/hate relationship... much like raising teenagers.
