I need that laugh

I was just on the phone with a dad of one of my sweet third graders and as we were getting off the phone he says "I love you" and then stammered all embarrassed and said "I mean, tell her I love her" ?

SEE!! That man listens and learns! It's always a good way to end a conversation with your better half with, "love you." It gets so ingrained it becomes like breathing. ?

AWWWWW! Sweet Petunia is a lucky lady. @MHDNURSE thank you for the giggle!

But just to clarify, is this a single dad...? ?

I have a cup of grapes on my desk that I am snacking on when a 2nd grader comes in and tells me his stomach hurts, after examing him and determining he can return to class he informs "I think if I had a grape or two that it would cure my belly ache". ??

For everything my parents have been through in their lives, and it's been a lot, I really appreciate the importance they placed on regularly saying "I love you".

I remember as a kid, sometimes my dad would stop what he was doing and say to me "When was the last time I told you I loved you?" and awkward preteen me would mumble something like "I don't know, I think yesterday". And then he'd say it again and tell me I was a good kid, just to make sure too much time hadn't passed since the last one.

Just gonna go finish cutting these onions now...

? This made me tearful. I lost my dad last year and he always made sure to always tell me he was proud of me, even on the last day I spent with him before he died. Now I am crying.

Agreed! My family is so verbally affectionate and I never thought anything of it because it was such a routine part of our day to say "I love you" and my dad and mom said it often to each other. Now I say it often to my kids and they say it back. It cannot be said often enough.

One of the things we had on display at my dad's memorial was a little post it note that my sister pocketed while she was at my parents house one day. It was a note that my dad left for my mom that read:

Dearest (my mom's name),

I went to the store. I'll be back soon.

Love you forever, (Dad's name) xoxo
