Nurses General Nursing

Hello All could I have Another Nurses prespective!

Sunday I fell in the parking lot at work and dislocated my right shoulder. . I had it reset in the ER. Today i went to my ortho and he said That i couldn't use it for a month. OMG! Well the DON at my LTC facility wants me to work on the interm. side of the building I usually work Subacute ,because the ortho put me on light duty and wrote on it note no use of right arm. (I am left handed). He said what can they get a one armed nurse to do.

Well i am kinda flabergasted and don't know what to do. I guess I need to tell you guys i was on the clock so its workers comp. If you can believe it I was going to my car to get another stehascope for the agency nurse she forgot hers.

Thanks for replying to my need for advice in advance.:imbar

HI hon...did you mean to post this in nursing humor??

hope your shoulder heals up quickly...no advice for you tho.

I don't know why it ended here i was playing word assasiation tag. Sorry typing with one hand

Wow - I hope you heal up quickly! I know shoulders can be VERY painful.

When I fell and broke my arm at work, I was put on light duty, as well. Yep, a one-handed nurse again, only I broke my right arm and I'm right handed, and the fall messed up some tendson, too, so I couldln't even really write. They gave me stuff to do on the computer for some management department for a while. Then they would bring me charts and I'd do chart audits.

I wonder why they figure that intermediate would be easier to do one-handed than subacute???

I was angry when I was hurt, because I thought they should have given me some time off to get over being so shaken up. But I guess they do it to reduce workers comp cost to them, plus they only pay you 60% of your regular salary when you're on workers comp, so that's something else. At least in TN.

Heal quickly - be careful with that arm!!

Love

I'll move this out of humor.

Oh I am so sorry. Make sure your doctor KNOWS that they are making you work while on pain medicine. That alone would seem to be a reason NOT to be there.

The 60% salary is a myth at least here in SC. It's 60% of what the maximum average salary is........the max here is I think $280 a week.....no where near what 2/3 of your real salary is. Might want to consider a lawyer.

I didn't when I tore my rotator cuff and they "paid me off" with $2000.......oh I wished I had gotten legal advice then!

I am truly sorry. Hope you heal completely and soon! NO FUN!

I hope you heal soon. The above nurse is correct it is against the nurse practice act here in Florida to work while on pain narcs. If you are in that much pain, you shouldn't have to work. Don't know about Ohio though.

Although, I think to continue to get your bills paid by workers comp, you have to accept the light duty offered if that's what your doctor has put you on.

Thank you for moving this Rusty. My doc acutally thought they would just put me on paperwork, I am calling him today. I probaby end up calling a lawyer d/t the stories my friends at work are telling me about previous workers who got shafted. I let you guys know what happens.

So sorry to hear about your accident, Buddha. I hope all turns out well.

You may need to call a lawyer; this injury sounds serious.

I know a nurse who tore her rotator cuff and is still working. She is trying to avoid surgery. The hospital has employees sign a form when they come aboard. There is NO workmans comp. What is some good advice for her? It happened 6 months ago.

Dear Buddha,

So sorry to hear of your accident! Hope you heal quickly! Be sure to get some PT for that arm as I'm sure you'll need it! Good luck and take care!
