How Much Do You Make?

Published

Specializes in ICU.

I've seen threads on the nurses tab, but all of the prices seem to vary substantially depending on your experience level and the region you are working in. I was curious to see how much nurses in the Lone Star State are making per hourly wage. If you are not shy about showing your acquired dough level join the post. I'm looking to see

-What department you are working in?

-How long have you been a RN?

-What is your hourly pay, plus shift differentials?

ER

8 years

$34/hr plus 1.80 per hour for ACLS, PALS, and CEN

differentials: $5/hr after 3pm (I work nights) plus additional $9/hr for weekends (so, $14/hr for weekend nights)

Are you looking to move to Texas or just seeing if you're compensation is in line? Just curious.

I'm actually an home-bread texan, been here all my life. I definitely want to stay here if possible and ironically I'm looking to work in the ER in a night shift (my brain works better at night). I just kept seeing figures like 20-22$ per hour in the hospital and I knew that wasn't what I was hearing at clinicals from the nurses I was working with.

20-22 may be for a new grad? I'm not sure what starting pay is now, but 8 years ago I started at 18.50 and that was pretty standard in DFW. Also, I think pay can differ quite a bit even from Houston to Dallas. Where are you?

I'm down in the Houston area and hoping to stay here. I've got an ADN to BSN bridge program lined up after I graduate in May 2012. If I'm forced to re-locate it won't be the end of the world, but I'd rather start off in a nursing home or something better suited for a new grad rather than re-locate if I can't find a hospital job down here.

$21-$23 is what you're going to find in Houston, Austin, San Antonio and Dallas areas for a new grad RN. As of 18 months ago, at least.

Specializes in ER, progressive care.

I am a new grad, been working in progressive care for about a month. I live about an hour north of Austin, and my base pay is $23.50. I think it would have been around $21-$22, but because I have a year and a half of tech experience, it went up to $23.50. I work night shift so I have differentials...from 1900-0000 it is +$3.52, then from 0000-0700 it goes up to +$5.87. When I work weekends, it is an automatic +$2.35 on top of those differentials. OT is $35.

$29.80 base pay. I work nights and I'm not sure what the shift diff is, really. I think it's $4 something. When I worked weekends only (Sat/Sun night) my TAKE HOME was $43/hr...after taxes and insurance and all that.

Specializes in Peds.

22 hourly as a LVN (graduated in Aug 2010) in a pediatric office working 8 to 5, M-F.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

-Acute rehab at a freestanding rehabilitation hospital

-1 year as an RN in addition to 4 years of experience as an LVN/LPN

-$36 hourly (PRN rate) + $4 differential for night shift. If I had accepted the full-time rate, my workplace would have only wanted to pay me $25 per hour, which is a lower pay rate than what I had been earning as an experienced LVN.
