My cc's waitlist is 3 years for the ADN,I don't know what to do because I'm not sure if I can wait that long! That's after 2-3 years of pre-reqs.How long were you waitlisted and do you wish you would have gone elsewhere?

Can you get on multiple waitlists or apply for other programs? Around here, they encourage students to apply to 4-5 different programs and to take whatever comes up. I am lucky to live in an area with those options, but unlucky that they are all so impacted!
I have been on two different CC wait lists for a year and am entering a lottery for another ADN program that starts in Fall plus applied to a BSN, as well. I was told the waitlists were 2-3 years, but they actually seem to move pretty fast. That could be because I have kept working to meet the various requirements of different programs and school, so I haven't felt like I am just waiting. I am trying to get as much out of the way as possible. Though, I may be spinning my wheels for nothing (if a class isn't required for a specific program) and in some cases I may need to repeat classes - like pharmacology because they are part of the program. In the meantime, it is hard to spend years doing prereqs, then years waiting only to spend years in actual nursing school. At this rate I will need a nurse by the time I am finished!

I know exactly what you mean, I want to be an RN but I am going my local CC for their LVN program first because my schools RN wait list is 1 to 2 years I think but I still need to take at least 7 to 8 classes before I can even put my name on the wait list so I put my name on the LVN wait-yes even that has a wait list:scrying:!!! I am #85 but they said I could possibly start this Fall 2008 but if not for sure Fall 2009. My CC also offers CNA classes this Summer 2008 and I will definitley register for that for nursing experience and they said I will get priority registration because I am enrolled in the Spring 2008 semester A&P but they said if I don't get in there is a wait list for that OMG:smackingf:angryfire:sfxpld:!!! If I have put myself on another wait list I will pull my hair out!!!:anbd::jwdrp::scrm:!!! I have also tried private schools and they are too expensive plus I read on a post from LVN/LPN corner that one private school-unnamed that is in my area some where will drop a student if they feel the student will not pass the NCLEX-PN because it will bring down their test average, can you believe that!!! I cannot risk taking out a huge student loan-already got one out anyway-and then be drop because they think I will fail the NCLEX-PN, then what I have to start all over I can't do that. It's not fair with the nurse shortage Community College's are cheaper so they should offer more classes then just on. I am willing to wait but it is so hard, I want to start nursing school so very badly!!! I wish you lots of luck and I really and truly hope you get in:nurse::clpty::nmbrn:!!! Keep us posted ok!!!

it was the same wait for me. couple years of pre-req's and a total of 3 yrs wait. I didn't mind so much 'cuz my kids were little, and i wasn't ready to leave them full time. But IF i was more in a hurry, I probably would've gone the LVN to RN route to speed things up a little.

I am terrified to spend 2 years waiting to get into a program! So far everything has gone really fast for me... I started with a CNA class in January 07 and started the first pre-requisites in May. I finish my last pre-requisites this March.
Unfortunately the local CC's have 1-2 year waitlist. I'm applying to a partnership program but due to recent changes in the pre-req's I don't have all the co-req's finished and I'm afraid I'm competing with students who have completed these. So I decided to apply to another CC an hour and half from where I live. That's what I have my hopes set on now. They admit student nurses according to their scores on the HESI A2. So at least I have some control over my acceptance. If I study hard, I'll get in. They also have less pre-req requirements and I created a solid course plan. I'm hoping to start their program this fall. I REALLY hope I'll get in, because I am not really willing to wait for 2 years. :)

I start clinicals in September, three semesters (not including summer) from when I finished my pre-req's. The wait has actually been a good thing because I have the opportunity to get all the co-req's out of the way. I'm finished A&P 2, English Lit and Developmental Psych this semester, and I'll just have microbiology to worry about in the summer.

I know how you guys feel....I am sooooooo nervous, but the good thing with my CC is there is no waitlist. They only go by GPA, and ACT score. No entrance exam, nada. The scary part for me is just having a good enough GPA and high enough ACT score... My CC only admits applicants every Jan and I CAN'T wait another year....
I guess I will have to, but I will be so devistated....

I was on a waitlist for three years for ACC in Littleton, CO, while completing prequisites for a BSN program. My acceptance letter came, and my mom THREW IT IN THE TRASH, so I didn't know it came. She insisted she thought I was no longer interested, since I had already started taking BSN classes. I cry about this all the time. Sorry if this doesn't answer your question, I just needed to vent!!

Ohhh OUCH! I have also been on the ACC waitlist 3 years. I get paranoid all the time about the acceptance letter getting lost or something like that. Did you talk to ACC? Are you sure you got dumped off the list? I'm so sorry! They got to number 960 for Spring.

Your mom opens your mail? :omy: Sorry, that strikes me as incredibly invasive. And to not even mention it to you?

Ouch. I feel like crying FOR you. So sorry to hear that. :yldhdbng::hgu:
Perhaps it isn't too late to call and explain what happened.

Wait lists sound like a terrible idea. My CC has no wait list. They simply take the best applicants each year. They look entirely at grades in pre-req classes. Fortunately I have a 4.0 and I am certain I will be accepted for this Fall. I do know a lot of people that get rejected, and they are in a real dilemma. For example last year 500 people applied to my school and they only allowed 75 in. That is a lot of rejections.

Where in Cali are you? I'm in LA, we have the exact same situation. I'm applying to 3 next month, if none of those work out for the fall I think I'll look into an acc. BSN.
jorhyne- Wow a CC that actually goes by grades? Ironic that's how it seems like it SHOULD be, too bad it's not out here. Good luck!
PS- is it just me, or are there an inordinate amount of people on these msg boards who have 4.0s??
