i have just joined and would like to say hello. i am from the uk, looking to relocating to clearwater, florida. can anyone give me any advice on the best way to go about it? do you have adaptation courses over there for rgn's? thanks;)

Try reading both on here (the UK forum) and the international forum especially the sticky in the international forum called Primer to working in the US.

There is lots to do and you must have plenty of patience as it will be a long process. When did you train as currently UK training does not always meet the US requirements as your training needs to cover both theory and practical hours in general adult, midwifery, mental health and paeds. Hours vary from BON to BON and sometimes the best way is to get CGFNS to do a CES report which will indicate if you are short on hours or not. Hospitals should offer some sort of orientation but time allowed will vary.

Welcome, topaz77! Glad you're here! Good luck in relocating to Florida...you'll LOVE the weather there....compared to England's climate (not that I minded when I visited....I LOVE England...for various reasons.)

It is really humid in Florida, though, but I hear that one gets accustomed to the extreme humidity. Anyway...great having you in allnurses!

I would love to work in the UK. What are the chances? I have 17 years of Med/surg oncology telemtry, pulmonary, experience. I am not from FL. But I am applying. Go to the FL. licensure site. Follow their directions completely. I even printed them off and marked them out as I went. You will have to request for the finger print cards. It has to be theirs ONLY. It only took 6 days for me. Good luck..

At the moment things have changed with immigration and employers have to give reasons when employing someone outside the EU especially if pay grade 5-6. Saying that your experience would be great and should count towards something. NMC is the place to start as you have to pass English exams and do a 20 day protected learning before you will be issued with a PIN which enables you to work in the UK and start the process for a work permit.

Hi there!! I'm should be in Tampa late summer/early autumn 2007 (retrogression etc aside). It's a great place & I don't blame you for wanting to go.

I strongly suggest you follow the advice you've been given here already & check out the threads on both the UK & International forum as I think you will get a really good idea of the process involved.

Bear in mind you will need the patience of a Saint (& more besides), access to a good photocopy machine & sheer detrmination!!

I'm with an agency, whereas others have been braver & gone it alone. There is a hospital in St Petersburg that does offer direct hire (although the rates they offer are not the world's greatest but it's a start). To go the direct route you'll need to pass N-CLEX RN first (threads will tell you how but feel free to PM if you get stuck).
