Nursing Shoes - any recommendations?

Published

I am starting my ADN in September and would like to get some comfortable nursing shoes that will last. In my former life, I wore steel-toed shoes to work every day, so I am used to UGLY shoes. Any advice and/or recommendations are appreciated.

I favor New Balance myself.........they make them in all white, too, so you could probably get away with them for clinicals. I swear by this brand, as I can try on almost any pair they make and they fit just like they were made for me. :)

Dansko makes some good shoes but they're a little pricey. Try http://www.dansko.com/Our_Products/Occupational.aspx

I'm starting in August and having a tough time finding shoes I like. Mine have to be white leather and closed heel. I tried Sketchers and they seemed to be too heavy. I wear a size 10 and it's nearly impossible to find Nurse Mates in any of the uniform or shoe stores in my size. I don't want to order them online until I try them out.

I wear clogs- Rockers by Cherokee. They are extremely lightweight and I feel like I'm walking on a cloud all day. I bought them from allheart.com and they were only about $30.

My current faves are Reeboks. Spendy but nice. Also, I bought some nursing shoes at WalMart Supercenter for about $25. They are nice but a bit heavy at the end of a long day, but they hold up well. The brand is TreadSafe.

I too am a New Balance fan. They are wide enough to provide support for the entire foot and lightweight. I've tried expensive Danskos and lower cost Nursemates. The New Balances are the only shoes that have kept me on my feet.

I like my Dansko's. I got them at a nearby outlet store for half the retail price so they were definitely worth the price.

I HATE my NurseMates that I got for school. After 2 hours, my feet and legs are already hurting.

I wear a size 10 also and found Nurse Mates @ Marty's Shoes (discount shoe store in my area) and found they ran really small and didn't seem all that comfortable. I just bought a pair of KSwiss all white sneakers and they seem pretty comfortable. Good luck! :)

I wore white skechers all through nursing school and as soon as I graduated I decided to upgrade my shoes, I "invested" in Nike Shox, and they are the most comfortable shoes ever made.(About 100 bucks, but you can find some for 80 or so.) My feet and legs aren't as sore, even through 12 hour work days......

I wish my school would allow us to wear anything that looked like an athletic shoe.

I have heard great things about New Balance but have been told to purchase something like NurseMates. I didn't buy NurseMates though. I bought some Rockers.

I recommend Merrells. They can be a little pricey, but are sooo comfortable and last forever.
