Huntington's

I am a fairly new home health nurse and I have a patient with Huntingtons. I am trying to think of interventions that justify nursing need. The family is knowledgeable about the disease in general and about meds. I'm afraid she knows more than I do about the disease. Does anybody have any ideas on what I can educated them about? Not doing wound care or anything hands on so it looks like education it is.
thank you for your assistance.

Has your patient had PT, OT, Nutrition Evals? These disciplines can have a positive impact on Huntington's. Also, have they considered genetic testing/counseling? All the best to you and your patient.

Why were they refered to your service?

Yes, with a chronic disease like huntingtons the patient and family may know more than you.

I nursed a person with huntingtons who had intractable pyschosis. Being formerly in the military would lash out and injure nurses because of the things going on in their head

GIven that Huntingtons is an autosomal dominant disease (only needs one chromosome via mum or dad to manifest) if the patient has any siblings or kids, its important for them to get tested

The patients (I mentioned) family had a parent with huntingtons as well as a sibling. The dad said repeatedly if they'd known about genetic testing they would never have had kids
