For all those who are doubting the Excelsior Program

This post is to all the Lurker, the new people and my fellow Allnurses colleges:

I just want to say that I am an Excelsior Graduate and live in NC. I take my boards of Friday March 6 and have been on 2 hospital interviews. These are the comments that I am getting from Clinical Managers during the interview when I tell them about my Excelsior Degree.

One managers eyes lit up with excitement and said:

"WOW! I heard that is a good program and very rigorious."

Other said:

" I know someone in that program and it is a very good program."

Other said:

"Congratulation! Good For You!"

Not one of them gave dirty looks or said anything negative or any nonsense about not possessing adequate nursing skills. Matter of fact they did not question my nursing ability at all.

So I write this to all doing the program to encourage you to keep on going and don't get caught in any negative talk about Excelsior College. There are people all over the country who know about this program and recognize how good it is. I know that I am only speaking for 2 hospitals in NC but its very promising for someone new coming out of this program looking for a job.

Good Luck and Hang in there and Be Encouraged! You are making the right decision!

Thanks Kim. I am diligently working towards the GA deadline and I've seen first hand the caliber or EC grads in the local hospital. What the future holds for me is uncertain but what I do know I that I don't feel like less of a person because I chose this route for my education.

Thank you so much for posting this. I take boards March 17th. Everyone at work has been so supportive ..up until a few weeks ago when one bitter RN decided to tell my NM that Excelsior was a scam. Needless to say I set my Nurse Manager straight and showed her the NLNAC website stating Excelsior's credentials. This whole situation left me a little insecure. A friend of mine who lives near by graduated from Excelsior and has started an awesome job working in surgery. :yeah:woo hoo:yeah: I work for the V.A. and may apply for a RN position there but if I don't I know there are facilities in the community that will welcome me.

Did I ever tell you I was born and raised in NC? Goldsboro area.

I have had the same input from nurse managers has had Kim. People who know the caliber of Excelsior grads know that they are getting very well prepared nurses. Some technology ignorant folks just don't know what we have to do to get through this program. I like exnavy girl's response; show them the NCLNC info.

Hey Kim, rock that NCLEX. I am sending prayers your way. I have received so many prayers and kind wishes in the past few days from our allnurses family. You will do amazingly well on NCLEX and you are a great nurse and a great friend!!!!

NC Girl, I am wishing you the best on the boards. You have been a big inspiration and because of you I WILL be a GN soon. There have been a bunch of set backs for me so far but I am sticking this program out. The hospital where I work house many LPN's on the Med/Surg floors who do the SAME job as the RN's. I'm very hesitant to tell many of my co-workers about EC most of them think it's bogus. When I finally complete and pass my boards the LPN's who work on my floor will be jumping to get information from me about EC. I can't wait to see the look on their faces when I'm finally an RN by way of EC....priceless.:bow::bow::bow:

Thanks girl! I know from experience how hard the EC journey is. People just don't understand our dedication and attention to detail. You have done well! Just continue to plug away at it because you don't have much further to go. I am in the same boat as you. Right now only a handful of people know about my EC expereince at work. My boss has no clue and I am not sure how to tell her. I can' wait to hear about the look on the peoples faces where you work when you give your boss your RN number and get that big well deserved raise! I will always be around to support my Allnurse friends. You guys are the best and your right, getting your RN through Excelsior is priceless. God bless you! You will be a RN in 2009. :redbeathe

EC grad here....funny how people ramble on about EC.....HELLO, they started distance learning and have been doing this since 1973! Now all the major Nursing programs in the USA have some form of distance learning and brag about their program and how they are "leading the way" or "new technology"....please! EC grads show the world every day...we can... and do ...prepare for just about anything!!!

We rock!

i can now proudly say that i am a gn from excelsior college. i started the program in june of last year, just took, and passed, the cpne last month. talk about a whirlwind!!!!!! i now am just sitting here waiting for the paperwork so i can take state boards. if anyone tries to tell me that i don't know how to be a nurse because i took online courses, i'll challenge any new "real school" nurse. we have to have the dedication and attention to detail to even pass.

Kim,

Thanks a bunch for the inspiration. I am currently waiting my CPNE date. During the past year I had two nurses, one in cardiac and other in ER who were totally disgusted by EC program. One told me "they have a failing rate of 60% so only 40% pass, that tells you a lot"...I just smirked at her and thought to myself, Oh I will do this! The negativity just made me work harder. I have a lot more to do with the CPNE...I will prove these silly nurses wrong...we all will!!!!

Kim, Good Luck with boards tomorrow...Sending powerful positive vibes your way. Traci

you bet you will prove them wrong. those are the type of nurses who no longer need to be nurses. with attitudes like that, it shows that the compassion they should have is not there. i sure wouldn't want them taking care of my family!!!
