First time posters

I'm pretty sure this topic has been brought up before, but why does it seem like so many first time posters get nasty when they don't hear what they want?

If they don't hear what they want they start calling you names and saying you are being mean.

If you point out they are violating TOS by having "nurse" in their username (and they are not a nurse) they get defensive and make it seem like we are being unreasonable.

Is the solution to just not respond to first time posters who obviously have no idea what nursing actually entails? The posters that seem to want the stars AND the moon... but if we did that then we'd probably get lashback for not responding. Are we just darned if we do and darned if we don't?

    I kind of have my own "Best Of"- I have a bookmarks folder with threads that have been closed or we're really good.

    So there's a new post regarding one of the less desirable tasks a nurse must do to provide care to his/her patients. Please notice the difference in how this poster inquired about it. I can almost guarantee she won't get any snarky responses because she asked it in a genuine way that was not the least bit disrespectful to her future patients. If she does get some snark you'd better believe I and others will come to her defense.

    Ooooh, there's another new thread from someone who hasn't gone to nursing school but spent several years helping out in the medical ward in the prison in which she was serving time. She wants to become a nurse because she knows everything nurses know (from her years of running the prison medical ward), and posted here to ask whether the BON will verify her background, because she wants to know in advance if she'll get caught listing the name of a school she didn't attend on her licensure application. She isn't worried about her criminal background, because she "knows" that the BON in her state doesn't do background checks. This one might eventually end up on the "best ever" list ...

    Apparently so. Because she knows so much from running the prison medical ward, and that's much more valuable knowledge than sitting in a classroom somewhere.

    Yeah I guess I got trolled (whatever that is) but I felt the need to respond to the non-nurse who wanted to get a job as a nurse. Anyway, I view each posting on its own merit regardless of if its a first time poster. Often I know I'm going to disagree with the point of view in the original post (IE: "Nurse Practitioners are Poopy-Faces" and all the derivative posts thereof) but I read them and look for signs of intelligent life. If there is I'll jump in. I always try to maintain civility but do not always succeed depending on the level of attack or delusion.

    I got a whole attitude reading that thread cause she seemed to know the answer to everything despite being told she was wrong on almost every post. I answered the best I could without being super rude but it was sooooooo hard not to be a complete jerk LOL
