Gosh - this is a huge topic - can you be a little more specific?

If it's that bad Im off to a new career =)

Disease dangers are minimal if you use universal precautions.

Muscle aches and tired feet are quite common.

Mental stress is possible after dealing with numerous acute patients.

Losing your license would happen for several blatant reasons, but usually after you have had counseling and the same things keep happening.

Hope that helps!

The rewards out weigh the risks by far!!!

You get the reward of knowing that you helped make someones life a little better!!!

If you are that easily disuaded then nursing may not be for you.

I'm a new nurse and I'm shaking in my shoes......can you be more specific?

Thanks!

I think the main dangers of nursing are getting psychiatric illnesses such as depression. Your mind can only handle so much stress before it starts falling apart. As for losing your license they have to prove that you are negligent in some manner. I have heard of nurses losing their licenses because they get caught stealing narcotic drugs from their jobs.

usually when someone adds a smiley it's meant as a joke.

How about family members of patients becoming aggressive (especially in ER), ex-patients who become stalkers, needlesticks, MRSA, SARS, any number of communicable diseases actually, carpal tunnel syndrome (from computerized charting), definitely losing your license and mental stress/depression, and making a mistake that causes a patient harm (obsession about making these mistakes is also a risk)? Yeah, I know that I sound like a worrier. :D

here is an article I wrote about a certain set of probelms related to nursing.

I'll add just a few not specifically mentioned that come to mind quickly:

Law suit.

Physical assault.

Reaction to a required immunization.

Serious on-the-job injury.

Please note that some of these could readily occur in other job fields as well.

The worst thing about nursing for me is that we have to document everything that happens, from when people have a go at us for whatever reason, if we bleep the doctors and they don't respond etc. It's like covering ourselves the whole time in case someone complains about us. But the best things in nursing always outride the worst!!!
