Has anyone taken a CPR BLS for healthcare providers coorifice? What is it like?

Featured Replies

I think pretty much everyone's who's in a nsg school or a nurse already has taken it. At least I hope so. :)

It's usually divided up over a weekend here or if you go only for the CPR..its only 2.5 hours...recertification is shorter.

I just registered for that course. It is an 8 hour course.

I also just registered for the course.. its one day, a few hours.

I took it and it's low key. BLS is generally one Saturday or 2 evenings (it's 6 to 8 hours total). You practice on dummies, watch videos, and listen to short lectures. There's a multiple choice test at the end. If you were paying attention in class, you should pass with no problem. (It's pass/fail.) Then they issue you a card so you have some proof. (Generally the nursing school need a photocopy of your BLS training.)

Good luck!

I took it about 2 months ago.....

It was about an 8 hour course. The first part covered a video and ventillation with a barrier device, oxygen and a bag mask. Also, went over the the use of AED device (automated external defribillator), and the relief of FBAO(foreign body air obstruction). Basic CPR.......

This had to be performed with an infant, child, and adult dummies.

Lastly, quick practical exam and written (multiple choice) in front of the instructor. She just gave us a couple senarios in which you came across either an infant, chilld or adult and had to perform CPR etc..... This had to be done alone and a couple more senarios with a partner.

You also get a booklet and barrier device to keep current. Nothing major, pretty simple stuff :)

Good Luck,

Jessica

I took mine over 2 evenings at the end of April. We were allowed to use our notes for the test. I'd been writing my notes in my book, not on a separate sheet of paper. When it was test time, I was told we couldn't use our books at all...so I was forced to take the test without my notes. I still ended up being the 2nd one done and got every question right, so it's really nothing to worry about.

Now I just need to hear I've been accepted into nursing school for the fall.

Not bad at all. We watched videos, then worked with the dummies and the AED. Went through certain scenarios and then took the written exam.

at the end of the course, are you certfied w/ a level C card??

Has anybody heard anyone ever failed?

I have the class this coming Saturday. I am thinking whether it is wise to spend time on the CPR manual now, or should I save the study time for my A&P in the coming fall.

The amount of time spent for this course (BLS) should be minimal in comparison to the A and P this fall.

As for those who are unsuccessful, you may reschedule a retake and that is no problem. Go ahead and try it.

Thansk sirir.

Now I am going to put all my after-work study time on A&P and not on CPR.

I'm not sure how much extra studying will help, but I will start studying Friday for my Wednesday (17th) class.

As for your A&P, I don't think few days before your class starts will hurt if you study a little bit for the CPR class. Maybe divide your study time between the two, if that makes you more comfortable.

Good luck on both. ;)
