Complaint of the Day

"Will you call my mom and tell her to move up my wisdom teeth surgery?"

I wrote on the pass: She's asking mom to reschedule surgery. Not much I can do about that.

Seriously???? NO!!!! Tell her when you get home.

I had one come in looking for a bag to carry her neck pillow in.

My plastic wal-mart bags were not to her liking. I used some of that therapeutic silence we have been discussing until she took the hint and went away.

Sorry honey, I just ran out of the last of my Luis Vuittons!!!!

I often say, "Sorry, Charlie, this isn't Target."

When students come my way for extra uniform - usually because they are not in proper uniform (yep, how I ended up with this, not sure) - I've had some look at a pair of khaki pants with such disgust and ask me if have "slim fit."

I just shrug and tell them "I'm not the Old Navy. If you prefer a certain style, you should have worn your uniform to school in the first place."

(Some are lovely and grateful I have extra uniforms and I love those kids.)

Complaint of my day, from the third visit of her day. "I just wanted to let you know that when I was resting in here before.....I could feel my feet growing".

From the littles, I could understand, but this one is in eighth grade.

Love therapeutic silence.

OH BOY.

Monday: Student fell on right knee - no swelling or bruising, able to bear weight. Gave ice, called mom and explained why LD needed to walk with a normal gait.

Tears, Tears, Tears. Limp, Limp, Limp.

30 minutes later I get a call from attendance office, a parent found LD on the floor in bathroom who told the parent I did nothing. I trot on down there, student gone and I spoke with the parent explaining - oh yes I did do something (must defend my honor).

Tuesday afternoon: Student walking pretty normal comes in requesting an elevator/leave class early pass. LD has a wrap from mid thigh to mid calf. I tell student to take wrap off and low and behold - still no swelling or bruising. NO PASS - unless you have a doctor's note. Did my mom email you? No, and that is still not an MD note.

Wednesday morning: Dance class calls - do we have a note for this student to sit out? Hold-up let me call mom. Such a sweet mom, thanking me for being so sweet to her LD knowing how extreme LD can be. Mom tells me to take wrap away and tell her to not bother the nurse. LD in tears with this information. I asked what her pain number was; 0 = no pain 10 = you want a helicopter to land in the field to take you to the hospital.

Her number = 9

Mom has a new husband & baby.

I had a student today give me a 10 minute explaination of how he tripped over the dog bed (story included pertinent information on picking up soiled puppy pad and retrieving new one) and hurt his knee. Steady gait. No limping. No signs of distress. Mom put an ice pack on it last night.

I offered him a new I/p. He declined because it didn’t really help. I asked him what else I could do since he fell and hurt himself. It’s going to be sore while it heals. Student refused to leave insisting the knee really hurt. I asked him if he could get through the day or whether the pain was so bad I needed to call mom or dad. He insisted on the phone call. I kept asking if he was sure because if I called home, I would recommend his parent take him to the hospital for an X-ray. Student didn’t budge. Wanted that phone call home. I said, “ok. I will call.”

Student: “Can I go eat lunch first?”

That’s not the end of the story. Apparently he told the teacher he was getting picked up to go to the hospital. Teacher called me to make sure I knew he was playing basketball at lunch. Apparently math class exacerbated his pain.

Oh and Monday’s CoTD came on a post it from a sub teacher: “upper bridge of nose aches.”

"math induced exacerbation of _______"

I think I might actually use this in my charting!!

So it's only 2nd period but we may already have a winner:

I'm allergic to silver and I am having a reaction to my flute....

So you are allergic to silver but you chose to play the flute?
:cheeky:

Had a frequent flyer arrive in my office with an over pronounced limp, wearing a walking boot!!! No MD documentation, her story on how it happened was sketchy at best. She wanted an elevator note and a note stating she needed extra time in the hallway and that a friend needed to help her carry her books. ( UMMMMM I was not born yesterday) I told her that I would not give an elevator pass without medical documentation. I told her I would have to make some calls and sent her to class. She didnt flinch and left. I called home, explained what happened. My ears were blasted off when mom screamed " She did what?!?!?" She said," Im coming in there, when I get there, we are calling her down." Mom arrived a few minutes later, I called the student down to my office. Again, over pronounced limp with walking boot. The color completely drained from her face when she saw her mother sitting in my office holding a pair of tennis shoes. 10 minutes later, and after a lecture that nearly made me cry, mom handed her the tennis shoes and said, " put these on and go back to class, now explain this to everyone." OUCH!!!! I've never seen a student walk back to class slower than that little girl. Needless to say, her FF visits to my office stopped after that day.
