I am on a contract in New Hampshire that is supposed to go until August 29. I recently became homeless as my fiancé kicked me out and left me carless. I've tried asking for help from everyone at the facility and family and friends and no one has housing or knows of any or can help. The town is in the middle of nowhere. No buses Uber taxis or anything. No rooms to rent and no apt without signing a year lease. There are hotels but they are minimum $80/night and to rent a car and have the facility cover my housing I wouldn't bring home enough to pay all other bills I need to keep up with. I've explained the situation to my recruiter and she said I am not allowed to leave my assignment. I have family that can let me live with them but that is in Florida. How do I get out of my contract so I can go home and at least have a roof over my head and some help?

First off, you'll probably get better answers in the Travel Nurse forum.

Secondly, read your contract. The repercussions of cancelling it will be there. You will likely be paying a fee to your agency; this is to offset the penalty the agency has to pay the hospital because they are breaking their contract with the hospital when you cancel.

Another consideration that may not be stated in your contract is that you may be 'do not rehire' for both the agency and the hospital/health system for leaving your contract early. There are plenty of agencies and hospitals in the sea, so unless this is somewhere you want to go back to or a huge health system you want to stay on good terms with, that's not a big deal.

Any decent travel contract includes housing. Read your contract, if that is not a perk, your agency might cough it up... to keep you.

I have broken a travel contract before.. easy to do, they don't own you. Whatever repercussions there might be... you need to stay safe.

Bail and go to Florida. It will lower your stress at a critical life inflection point.

There are a couple other options. If it was me, I'd rent a car and sleep in it and shower at the hospital. Not for everyone of course but it is a very fast alternative.

The hospital may have an available call room, local housing, or pt room. Check with medical staffing.

You've checked Craigslist for a house share? If you have the time, posting a housing wanted ad gets results that are never posted prospectively. You might be able to negotiate a fair deal with an AirBnB poster.

Local college? They often rent rooms in the summer.

Asking for help at a local church is almost certain to get you help if that isn't too uncomfortable.

Well, if it was me, I'd take the hotel and car rental from my company, and contact my creditors and explain what happened with the understanding that you will catch up after your contract is up.

Do you have a Florida license and a job lined up down there? If I were you I'd stay, take company housing and save some money. No point being homeless and unemployed.

Also, if you don't mind me asking, what other bills do you have that you wouldn't be able to pay if you're homeless and careless? Those are usually the biggest bills. Student loans can be deferred if you're experiencing a hardship.

Also this time of year you can probably just buy a big tent and air bed and camp at a local state park or something like that. You will have bathroom, shower, electric and water. That should hold you over for 14 days until you have some money to put down on a place or on a vehicle. Not to be critical but never put all your eggs in one basket. It sounds like he was the one with a car and the place, so were you paying half his car and housing. If so it sounds like he was using you and never let that happen again. Get yourself a bank account and put your money away for times like these. Bad things happen but you can guard yourself from the severe outcomes with proper planning.

Have to disagree with you on this one. Engaged or married is a full commitment and you should be all in. Getting a prenup or saving mad money is not committing. It is good it didn't go further of course.
