Allnurses needs nurses

I have loved this site, but as I check , "Today's Posts", as is my wont, more and more, there are only student related topics.

What has happened here? Has anyone else noticed this? I have no problem with lots of students here, but I also want to participate in lively discussions with peers!

A lot of the nurses that had those lively discussions posted with the app from their phone. Once the app disappeared so did a heck of a lot of people.

I'm back, too.

I know I don't access the site as much now that the app is gone. Navigating the site on my iphone is not something I enjoy. I am a nurse who is currently back in school full time so my free time is limited anyway. I get on maybe once a week now, but only have the time to read a post or two typically. We need an app that is well functioning. That will bring some of us back.

Brian never sent any pens to me. I am deprived.

They were awesome pens. I think I kept like 50 for myself. HAHAHA

What was your old username?

I loved those pens too!!

I think this has always been my same username. I don't recall ever changing it. I was a moderator for a while too before I went MIA.

For what it's worth, I used allnurses as a student as a way to practice and solidify the fundamental information I was learning in school by helping other students -- the resources posted by GrnTea and the help given by Esme and Ruby (and SO many others) in the homework sections were (and continue to be) amazingly helpful. It helped fuel the fire I had for the academic side of nursing. It wasn't until I became an RN and started residency in Sept 2016 that the professional aspects of nursing hit home and, while I don't post as much as I used to, I can appreciate the stories and experiences shared by the much more veteran among us. Sadly, I find that they also don't post as much anymore and I also find the endless barrage of "So-and-so School Nursing Program Fall 2017" and "4 months in and I don't wanna be a nurse anymore!" posts to be disconcerting.

I've only been truly on my own for 2.5 months and the tone these posts continue to set makes allnurses something I can't really connect with anymore. I started looking to Reddit for the RNs subreddit but they also don't post very much either (and then I end up wasting a lot of time on other subs). I tried to use the Oncology Nurses Society Community as a means of finding people to connect with as I grow in peds hemonc. I will continue to visit allnurses, however, in hopes that the tide will change back to the way things were and we will see more of the "tell on yourself, if you dare" posts than "incivility/lateral violence/bullying/general snowflake nonsense" posts that are not the allnurses I remember when I started nursing school that fateful fall of 2013.

Yep yep yep to the bold. SO MUCH entitlement and such thin skins. SO, so many who want to rush to the advanced practice role with nary a stop-by in actual you know, nursing work. Like it's beneath them-----"I want my dreeeeeeam and I want it now".

I took a rather long break from allnurses (like 4 or 5 years----been a member 15) and things definitely have changed. A LOT.

It's weird that all of a sudden there are SO many of these posts. Is this a function of impacted nursing programs and for-profit schools? Do people REALLY think nursing is a direct path to a cushy job and lots of money?? What is going on these days? It was only within the last year (maybe even 6 months) that it really started getting bad.

I've noticed that there are so many "articles" here now instead of threads by and for nurses. Some of the "articles" are just rants about how awful is everything from the nursing school admissions process to the terrible preceptors, horrible first jobs and miserable colleagues . . . .

I miss the good old days.

Yup I have seen a lot of familiar names. It doesn't seem like it has been THAT long, but I was looking back and I was a part of this forum Pre-Nursing, Nursing School, New Nurse and now I have 6 years under my belt. It's nice to see so many familiar names still around though.

The sad thing is, all those entitled snowflakes with the thin skins could learn a LOT if they would just open up their minds and get over themselves! This has never (to my knowledge, but I've only been around about 15 years) been a support group, but we see so many posts from people who post a question asking for advice and then get all bent out of shape when the advice they receive isn't what they want to hear. "WAHHHHH! I wanted support, and all you nasty OLD mean nurses should just stay off of my thread if you can't be supportive." Meanwhile, the thread is about (and I kid you not -- I never would have believed it if I hadn't seen it!) flunking NCLEX 11 times. Sigh! There are times I just want to bang my head against the keyboard.

Come to think of it, that could be why I have the huge bruise on my forehead.
