I think the issue of residue gasoline on the pump handle has more to do with the fueler before me, than my personal lack of technique. I don't recall pumping my own gas until I was 18 or 19. Before that, I patronized a small mom & pop convenience store (much like the kind Karen described) where they fueled, washed the windshield and checked the oil automatically.

Perhaps the handles are better quality/maintained now, as this seems to be less of a problem.

I'm still confused. How does the gas from anyone get on the pump handle?

There's probably a one off here and there, but over four decades of pumping gas I don't recall my hands smelling like gasoline.

It's just like putting meds into an IV. You don't get meds on your hand, do you?

Someone doesn't allow the gas to completely drain from the nozzle after shutting off the flow. You invert the nozzle and a trace amount of gasoline drips onto the grip.

I believe when I was a new nurse that I may have gotten drips of IVF on my fingers when priming a line.

Hmmm, well like I said, I've never had that issue. But, if I'm ever in Oregon, I'll be extra vigilante.

My last post wasn't very helpful. I can do better, as I think I see what the issues are and I can help you and all the Oregonians who are relatively new to pumping their own gas.

First, you don't need to invert the nozzle. Not sure why you would. True, there is occasionally a few extra drops. Simply stand away from the nozzle as much as you can and point it away from you as you remove it from your vehicle.

Secondly, no need to prime the hose from the pump. Simply insert the nozzle into the vehicle before you squeeze the handle to let the gas flow.

You, your hands and clothes should now be gasoline free :)

I am not an Oregonian. I live 230 miles from Oregon. We enjoy visiting there, which is why I am familiar with mini-serve gas stations.

I've been pumping my own gas for 40 years in my home state of Washington and for a few years, in Idaho.

Thanks for the tips.

Trump's "feud" with the Pope might be overblown, but Catholics aren't happy about it. I know a few Catholics that are Republican because of the abortion issue. Also many people for the last two Popes have considered them too "woke". But there are also Catholic swing voters and I think Trump misstepped.

J D Vance says the Pope should stay in his lane and out of politics, but I don't think his statement were out of line with what any other Pope has said about war and peace.

The "I'm Catholic and I stand with the Pope" is a thing.

Disclaimer: I am no fan of any pope, this one included.

Not a Pope fan either and certainly not a fan of the Catholic church, but I agree entirely.

JD Vance overlooks the fact that the Vatican City is a sovereign state. Hence the Pope is a head of state as well as being a religious leader. I often don't like it when Popes pronounce either, however as a head of state, it's perfectly appropriate that the Pope makes political statements. That Vance evidently doesn't understand that is atrocious in a vice-president. However, given that it's Vance, it doesn't shock me that he doesn't get it.

Good points.

Plus there is precedent for a Pope promoting peace and not war. Pope Francis held a prayer vigil for Syria. Pope John Paul objected to the US War with Iraq...on and on in my lifetime and beyond Popes have promoted, peace, diplomacy and against the loss of innocent lives. (Now of course their ancient history is another story)

That is their lane and has been for a while. Vance is saying "how dare he promote peace". We heard that.
