I was just wondering about what y'all thought about the wound vac system. I've been on one since Monday. The size of the wound is 3 cm x 0.6 cm. The depth was 1.5 cm on Wednesday and 1.2 cm yesterday and scheduled for another dressing change tomorrow. Is it healing up about the same or faster than what you've usually seen? With healing like this, on average, how long would it take to make a full recovery?

I have a very large wound from removal of a hematoma after hysterectomy. When I had the staples removed in the office, she cut a very large incision (almost the same size as the surgerical incision and referred me to the wound center for treatment. I have had the wound vac since Friday and go for the first change today. I am glad to find this site. Gives me hope. Does the discomfort get better as it heals more? Is a hematoma a common complication of hysterectomy? I was quite surprised to end up this way.

This is an old thread but interesting. Where I used to work we had the wound vac frequently. I had a sponge that I could tell had been looked over a few times. It was a bear to get out. Plenty of NS and care. I finally got everything cleaned up. I can see whey it wasn't done, due to the depth and size of the wound, but the reason was being lazy because you could see the sponge. The pt turned out ok. Yes the wound vac can do wonders.
