U.S.A. Washington

hey there - I'm nursing student hoping to move to Seattle when I graduate in two years. I'm wondering if you guys can tell me the hourly wage for RNs in the Seattle area? and the night shift differential?

also, how's the job market there? hopefully by the time I graduate the recession will be over...but, I'm curious. are new grads having a hard time finding jobs there?

If its a union hospital am sure the contract is somewhere online

The pay is good up here if you are in a union facility. If you go to work in a non union facility your pay will be about half of what you would get otherwise. Some of the Seattle hospitals are pulling back. No agency nurse, no travelers, no new hiring. You might have better luck at some of the smaller hospitals. There are 5 large hospitals in Seattle: Harborview, Childrens,( they are state supported public hospitals), Swedish, Virginia Mason, VA. Some of the hospitals have had to make some cuts because they are in the middle of major construction projects.

I work in a small county hospital just north of Seattle by about 15 minutes. We are hiring. The benefits are okay and the work environment is good. You might want to check into some of the outlying hospitals. Don't do LTC if you don't have to. Most are non union and the pay is terrible and the work conditions horrible. Send me a private message and I can fill you in further. Diane
