Fall 2011, anyone?

2 years from now I hope to start nursing school at TCC or Sentara. It feels like so looooong away. Anyone else in the waiting game for pre-req's or other reasons? We're saving money for a new house and I have pre-req's to finish in the mean time too. Plus only 1 of my 3 kiddos will be in daycare/preschool at that point so that'll be some more pennies in teh bank!

I'm just starting my pre-reqs at NVCC this fall, and I'm looking at a 2011 start date as well...I know it seems so far off, but I'd rather have all my ducks in a row and more time to save money as well!

Hello. I am also applying for the Fall 2011 class for accelerated BSN programs. I am taking the time now to go to open houses and information sessions. I am also saving money and preparing to write a good admissions essay and ask for recommendations. GretchenT, what programs are you applying to?

Cheer, I have my sites on a 2011 start in the accelerated in-person program at Northern Virginia Community College. *crossing fingers*

ok. Have you also looked at George Mason's accelerated program? I am going to the information session on August 13. I'm also going to see if I can check out Marymount's program. I went to an open house at Georgetown. It was great, except the 70,000 tuition part...

You know, I haven't, but you are the second one to mention it to me. I will look into it, just to be sure (though I live *really* close to NOVA's MEC and the price is right). Marymount will definitely be too much $$$ for me.

I'd be interested on what you think after the information session!

ok. I will keep you posted!

I thought I was the only one so far away from realizing my dream! I sometimes feel like I'm sitting on top of the world with my decision to become a nurse and other times I feel as if it's too late to make such a drastic change in careers. I just went through advising at NVCC and was told that I would have to take biology and chemistry before I could take any A&P classes. I'm taking one day at a time and hopefully everything will fall into place. :D

It will... Just think of things this way: you are probably working until you are 60(ish) years old. I'm only 30 and will be done with my BSN when I'm 35 - that's 25 years of work left ahead of me!

Figure out a game plan and stick to it... I'm so impatient though; I am just ready for nursing classes. Lol. It'll come.

I just graduated with my ADN and I didn't have the money to roll right into a BSN program. So I decided to apply for a 2011 start date to give me a year to (try to) work to pay for it. Waiting is frustrating, but it's also nice NOT to be a student for a while, after doing so for the last several years.

And you can have more than 25 years of nursing ahead of you, hoping2nurse. My MIL is 64, still working as a nurse, and is far from slowing down :)

Nope, you're not alone! I'm headed to NVCC, too, and while I'm ok with the chemistry, I have a lot of biology to make up (starting this fall). It is almost torture, isn't it, to finally make the decision and then have to wait so long to actually start nursing school...but from what I understand, that is pretty much how it goes!

Do you know which program you're going to apply for...traditional, accelerated, etc?

Ok. I went to GMU accelerated BSN information session yesterday. Here is the scoop. Starting for the class of 2011, you will need to take Biomedical ethics, instead of just a regular ethics. You will need to take the TEAS test to be admitted and it must be within a year of applying. NAS 161/162 will not be accepted for Human A+P 1 or 2. Currently, the tuition is $16,000 for in state and $ 46,000 for out of state. I am so glad that I went to the information session so that I can get a head start on my pre-reqs and the TEAS test.

Overall, the presentation was very infomative, however the presenter kept mentioning that it is a very competitive program and that you need to have above the minimum requirements to get into the program. There were a lot of people there, many who were actually looking to apply for fall 2011.
