DWI ten years ago

Ten years ago I made a stupid decision and drove after drinking and received a DWI. I performed all the necessary court mandated requirements and since it was my first (and LAST) offense, I applied for and received a expungement of the offense.

Six years later, I entered nursing school and self reported the offense and was allowed to continue in school. I just graduated in 2005, 9 years after this calamity, but it still haunts me as I have to report it on all applications.

Being from New Orleans, I lost my home in Katrina after just starting a new job where, of course, I reported the offense. Then, having to move and get a position out of town, I again reported it and was still hired. I recently moved back to N.O. , reported it Again, and was hired.

Now, I want to enter Travel Nursing. Will this thing still plague me? I am always honest about reporting this lapse of judgment, even though it has been expunged, and have all the documentation showing that I performed everything the court required. I have no previous or subsequent offenses.

Can anyone tell me if this will hurt my chances of Travel Nursing?

Thank you.

I don't believe it will be anymore of a problem than you've stated so far.

The only possible problem I can foresee is that you might have trouble getting a license in some state.

If you've always reported it I'd continue to do so and see what happens.

There are 50 states and the USVI to work in so you might have to limit yourself on some of them but I don't think so.

Good luck.

cenote ,

Lets just say - "been there , done that " , and have been travelling for 4 yrs now , and yes you will continually need to report it when you apply for a new liscense in another state , its not really a big deal as long as you haven't been in trouble recently for similar offenses , usually you just have to write a letter to the state board and tell them what happened (this is usually part of the application process as you know ) .

I have never been denied a job or an assignment due to this , hope that helps .
