What Graduate Nurse/Internship Programs are available now?

I'm in the same boat! I graduated in May, have my BSN and passed NCLEX but can't find a job. My loans start coming next month and I have no idea what I'm going to do. I applied to over 20 jobs! What the heck!?

20 jobs? I applied to over 200 jobs in 6 months and ended up working in a Prison. Try harder...

Seriously? Try 300 in about 18 days. I did get hired shortly after getting my license though. Put in about 200 more applications. Defer your loans.

I am a RN with a BSN looking for a job, in Houston or San Antonio. I graduated in December 2011, got a job in April 2012 quite in July 2012, because I quickly realized this was not the specialty for me. I should have not settled for anything and I should have started in either the basics (Med-Surg), or one of the specialties that I really wanted which includes (Pedi, Neonatal, Nursery, or L&D. So far I have applied for Memorial Hermann, Methodist, HCHD, & a hospital in San Antonio. These positions start in Janurary or February of next year. I have not received any calls yet about interviews. Maybe too soon, I dont know...... I have student loans that I still have to pay for and other expenses, and I am unemployed. Is there any other places hiring new grads (as I am still considered one)? Please help me!

Why did you quit before finding a new job? That was your first mistake. Where were you working? The short stint at your last job makes you look bad to future employers. They fear you will drop them too. Why are you only considering new grad spots? Beggars can't be choosers in this economy. I think some new nurses fear they will be tossed on a floor with zero orientation and expected to do as well as 30 year veterans! Not the case at all!

check out indeed.com Lots of the DFW area hospitals are posting residencys/internships for new grads. Im sure its the same in Houston

What makes your resume unique? GPA, volunteer projects, any PI projects at your last position?.....Houston hires new nurses all the time but the managers also look for what makes them stands out. Last time i accompanied HR to a job fair i was surprised at how new grads were behaving. Some in scrubs, cheap looking resume and by cheap, i mean a resume so generic no one even notices it or even no resume! No involvement in any projects whatsoever! If you have not had a job for a while then what are you doing in the meantime?

There was a good reason for me leaving my last job. I am not just applying for residency/internships, I have been applying for others too. The reason why I asked about the graduate nurse/Internship programs is because those are the jobs who actually seem to respond back to me. There is no reason why I would need to tell people the reason for leaving. This was not a mistake, and it was better that I left. There is no need to judge me, when you do not know the whole story. But anyway, if you are willing to actually answer my question. This is so greatly appreciated.

This really seems like a rant on new grads. I do not fit into the category of "Some in scrubs, cheap looking resume and by cheap, i mean a resume so generic no one even notices it or even no resume!" I am a very professional person. On my last interview, they said I actually stood out because my outfit was very presentable and I have been complemented many times on my resume. But besides that I continue to network in my community, I worked for a little while with a stroke patient, and am definitely not sitting on my butt and being lazy. I know a better job is coming for me, as I continue to search everyday. I have faith.

Thank you, I have been using indeed, simply hired, career builder, & a long list of other search engines. I feel like I am getting closer to a new job soon.

Kdan ~ There is no need to become defensive. People asked legitimate questions. Whether you had a good reason or not, that's not what an employer will see when they see look at your resume. All they see is you worked for three months. So either you quit or where fired. Either way that's not a good look. To answer your questions. I saw a posting for GN program at Conroe Regional Medical Center. Interviews start in December. Have you tried assisted living and skilled nursing facilities. Many of them will hire nurses with little to know no experience. My friend's mom is a RN at a skilled nursing facility. She said this niche is still very old school. You have to go there and fille out applications and try to talk to ADON/DON. They don't pay a lot of attention to resumes via fax or email.
