UTHSC Houston - Fall 2013

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Greetings!

I am applying to UTHSC Houston - Fall 2013. Anybody else?

Honestly the HESI book they recommend you buy is the best way to prepare especially for the math and reading sections. For the vocab section I would recomend going on quizlet.com and just doing random vocabulary quizzes that other people have posted for the HESI. I made a 920 on my CT section and I owe it all to Fudamentals Sucess A Course Review Applying Critical Thinking to Test Taking or any other book that would be used in nursing school for critical thinking. I could not find anything anywhere on how to prepare for that section and I have heard UT-Houston looks into those scores. I feel like that book really helped me on picking "the best" answer. CT wasn't that hard you just have to think like a nurse in a way because all of the answers are correct.

Thanks! I have that book, or least a PDF of it, haven't looked too much into it, but I will now!

That is an awesome critical thinking score! I made a 770 on mine, do you think I have any chance getting accepted?

Im sure it depends on the application period and what the competitive scores are. From looking back at older posts most people i saw had scores between 800-900ish but you made over the 750 so im sure you have a chance :).

Hi! I am planning to apply for their program also. What was your Hesi overallscore, if you don't mind me asking and what other books you used to prepare forthis test?

Heres my stats:

Pre-Req GPA: 4.0

Science GPA: 4.0

HESI Cumulative Score: 92

Reading and comprehension: 94

Math: 96

Grammar: 90

Vocab: 84

Anatomy and Physiology: 96

CT: 920

Learning styles: Kinesthetic/Global

Personality styles: Creative/People

All I used to prepare for the test was the HESI book they recommend you buy, quizlet.com for the vocab and A&P, and I reviewed A&P through cliff notes (this was a great review because it just gives you general information which is really all you need). I felt the test was pretty easy, but my computer kept locking up in the exam which I feel really effected my nerves and my score but oh well. I also just finnished A&P II a week before my HESI test so everything was still fresh on my mind, but I used my A&P textbook to get a more in-depth review. There is only 30 questions or so for the A&P section and since it can be over pretty much anything, I wouldn't recommend getting bogged down by the details when trying to study.

Hope this helps! :)

Well.... It seems you have a really great chance!!!! Are you applying to any other schools? And did you have to take the TEAS V? I'm taking both tests on Thursday and Friday. Figured while everything was fresh in my brain to do it that way.

Thank you! I hope so! :) I am planning on applying to TWU and Texas A&M and possibly UT Tyler. I haven't scheduled to take my TEAS V yet because I wasn't sure if you could before starting the application process for TWU? Where are you applying and for which semester? Everything I am applying for will be for Fall 2013.

I'm also applying for Fall 2013. Other than Houston, I'm applying to UTMB, Tyler, and A&M. I'll let you know how the TEAS goes! I'm hoping to get everything in early, as soon as they open their applications. Such a long process lol. My first choice is Houston or UTMB.

Well good luck! :) I haven't even given thought to when I am going to take the TEAS because I have been stressing so much about the HESI haha. Are you taking the TEAS through TWU? I wanted to get it done before summer as well, but I dont think thats going to happen before the fall starts so I will probably just register for it after I get into the grove of school again. Houston is my first choice as well and I would put TWU as second. I was also thinking about apply to UTMB too but im not sure if I really want to relocate to galveston haha..

I'm in San Antonio, so when I signed up there were only two locations (not as easy as when we signed up for the HESI, where you can pick any time and day through prometric). Baptist which is not a BSN program offers the test only to their students, so my only choice was to take it at Wayland Baptist. When I signed up back in June there weren't many dates listed, so I choose the date that was the closest before the fall semester began. Are you finished with your science pre-reqs? Fall semester I'm taking anatomy w/the lab, and labs for physiology and micro (they were full last semester). Hopefully I can keep that 4.0 gpa science pre-req! I'm glad there's a forum for the fall 2013 hopefuls!

Oh wow how crazy. So you dont sign up through a school like you do for the HESI and test at your closest location? I finnished up A&P II this summer (really bad decision) had a really tough teacher and it deffinetly consumed my summer! I only had a week to really study for the HESI lol. I am taking Micro in the fall and then I will be done with my sciences thank goodness! I'm really glad there is a forum too! Its going to be a long waiting process and its nice to be able to keep in touch with each other and help each other since we are all going through the same anxiety! lol
