UT Tyler Spring '13 Admission

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Anyone out there applied for Spring 2013 admission to UT Tyler? I'm actually doing the Accelerated Program, but would love to hear from anyone about their points and how they feel about their application! I'm dying to find out if I got in! 10 days til the deadline, and then I'll be checking my email every half hour for the next 6 weeks, I'm sure. :)

I have a 3.6 right now but we will see how it goes after I take a&p and chemistry.

OK! So I went to Tyler today to meet with my advisor and check out the campus. Everyone was really nice and the campus itself wasn't bad...just the rest of Tyler is wayyyy different and old. It's definitely going to take me getting used to.

I was also told to stay away from Cambridge and Varsity apartments because of the crime. And also was told that The Reserve apts were good, but didn't have time to check them out. University Pines are on campus and look to be decent, but did seem kind of pricey to me.

I got prices for the level 1 nursing textbook packages and they are insane! $697.91 for the textbook+ebook package. And $394.61 for the ebook package. These packages will be updated so prices might may not be exact, but close enough to get an idea.

Hope this helped!

Has anyone else received an f and been accepted to the nursing program?

To be honest with you I received 2 D's in my chemistry class on my first two tries, it does hurt you because Tyler goes on the point system. For every time you fail a class they take off a point, but you can easily make up for it with your TEAS test score! I recommend you making an appointment with the advisor there. When I came she literally took out the grading sheet and scored me right there. Its a different paper than what they show us online. It also showed me different classes I could retake or take extra (humanities) to boost my point standing. I didn't get in for fall with 72 points, but I got in this time I think with 78points.

I'm not sure how many of us doesn't live in Tyler but one of the staff emailed me information about books and what not. Its about our books. Our grand total is $697 >.booklist and bookreservation

Luckyberries did you take your chemistry at UT Tyler? What did you score on your teas?

Thanks for telling us about Tyler, it helped me get an idea of what the campus looked like.

I emailed my adviser about books and she ended up forwarding my email to the instructors but no one has emailed me about textbooks. I found the Fall 2012 syllabus for Nursing Competencies and I read that we needed "Electronic version of textbooks to load onto your portable device (available in the book package in the bookstore)." I was wondering if we really do need electronic versions of our textbooks because if so, I might as well just get the ebooks.

So the documents are textbooks that we need for Spring? Thanks for uploading this for us! I have been trying to get a response from instructors and my adviser about my textbooks so that I could get them from third parties.

I actually can't buy the textbook package because I have already taken Pharmacology. If it's not required to buy electronic versions of textbooks then I'll definitely buy my textbooks from third parties.

I took all of my classes at UT Arlington, and I made two D's in chemistry, she took off points for that. It doesn't hurt if you make a C and retake it for an A because thats what I did for Anatomy. I'm not sure if the point deduction only counts for nursing preqreqs like sciences. Its always best to make an appointment with the advisor.

KRBee- we do not need the electronic versions of the books. My advisor told me either or....I'm personally better at learning when I have the book in front of me, so I won't be buying the ebooks. I've also taken pharm so I was planning on ordering my books via third party.

An instructor emailed me back regarding books and told me that the Nursing Competencies books must also include the electronic versions. I'm confused now because of what your adviser said! I would prefer physical textbooks but the instructor told me that it's required to get the ebooks. That's why the textbook packages at the bookstore either include the ebooks or it's ONLY the ebooks. Health Assessment does not require electronic versions, as far as I know.

The lady that emailed me back also said we needed electronic versions of all the textbooks, shes not my advisor but my advisor forwarded my email to her. Apparently she is the one that is in charge of all the textbooks, uniforms and what not. .

Thanks for the verification. Now where to buy the ebooks...they don't sell them separately at the Tyler bookstore.

Just in case anybody isn't familiar with purchasing ebooks via third parties, I bought Medical-Surgical Nursing (with Media), Fundamentals of Nursing, and Nursing Diagnosis Handbook for about 230$ on Pageburst (by elsevier, I believe?). The Fall 2012 syllabus for Health Assessments doesn't say we needed electronic versions of textbooks, and an instructor that emailed me this past week copy-and-pasted the required books that we needed; she did not notify me of ebooks for Health Assessment. So I just bought the textbook for that class.

After browsing around Pageburst, I realize it's not the best ebook viewer out there, but it works and it's a very good value. I cannot purchase the package because, as I mentioned before, I don't need to take Pharm.
