NIce neighborhoods downtown Austin

U.S.A. Texas

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone could direct me to a nice neighborhood close to downtown Austin? Im ok with a 20min commute so that's my distance requirements, I guess. I may be accepting a position at a local facility in the downtown area and would appreciate the help. I will be renting for the first year at least so a nice community with either houses or apartments will do. Just trying to get my ducks in a row. Thanks a bunch!!

It really depends on the "vibe" you want and what your housing wants/needs are as well as your budget.

In terms of location our personal preferences in Austin tend toward the hill country areas West and South of downtown. Most locals will tell you that these areas have much more of the Austin character still intact vs. areas North and East which are just developed like most other major metro areas. MoPac is a MUCH easier commute than relying on I-35. MoPac slows down during peak times but rarely goes to the standstill that you'll encounter on I-35 (plus there are very few HUGE semi's or the kind of pass-through traffic on MoPac that you get on I-35).

We live in SW Austin around Slaughter and MoPac and find we can get into the heart of downtown even at rush hour in 20 minutes or less. If you can find a place close to Zilker park and Lady Bird/Town Lake - Do It! Beautiful, great area with lots of activities and recreation options.

Let me know if you have any other questions. We know what it's like trying to figure out where to live in a new city!

GG :wink2:
