60% overall TEAS V score, low GPA and just Accepted to RN Program

For those about to throw in the towel and not apply because of your Teas score, don't do it. I stood a snowball's chance in hell with my tea's score and just received the phone call today from the Nursing Director that I got in.

My school requires at bare minimum a overall Teas score of 60 and/or 68 in the reading comprehension along with at least a 2.0 GPA. My oh-so honest adviser told me flat out I had slim to none chance of getting in with just the minimum requirements.As blunt as she was, I was just excited to be able to apply! I was told accepted applicants generally were above an 3.8 GPA with super high Teas scores. I applied anyway with my measly 2.7 GPA and an what I thought was an awesome accomplishment: 78% on reading comp. We won't go into my horrible 46% in Math... yikes!

I received my general rejection letter right on time last Monday and naturally was crushed, angry and upset. Today out of the blue at 9:30 this morning I received a call from the director, I had been put on an alternative list

(they don't tell you that in the general rejection letter! ) and for whatever reasons the fates would have it; I was selected and start in August.

I've been a long time lurker on this board looking for tips and tricks and I seen so many people upset because they scored 70's and 80's. Don't let that stop you from applying. If you meet the minimum requirements; apply. Even if it's a snowball's chance in hell. I know not every situation is similar to mine, but maybe the school will look past the horrible and see potential in something else. You just never know until you try.

P.S. I found the online Teas test from the ATI website to be a big help in preparing for what the test was like. The question setup was similar to the actual test and I found that even though I scored HIGHER on the online practice test, I know in my mind I was nervous and watching the clock to much on the real test.
