Research Nurse Coordinator???

Do you plan to stay in that field? Most nurses do not stay in the first job over a year. The reality is we are very flexible and enjoy the luxury of finding the right fit. Don't limit yourself.

I have applied for several CRA positions in Toronto (from here in LA). Needless to say, I've not gotten any offers (have had some interest though) because of my current location, among other things. I've been told I'm qualified though.

I may just have to apply for a position with a pharma here in the US and see what happens. I'd really love to move to Toronto, though. TO has LOTS of pharmas, and my fiance is there which is a definite plus.:heartbeat

Could anyone tell me what is or where I can find the starting salary for a clinical research nurse? Also, do they usually get paid a lower salary than most bedside nurses?

Also, how does the role of a research nurse change once they become an NP?

First time posting. After 17 years in the hospital, I went on to clinical research where I have now been for 4.5 years as a CRA (Clinical Research Associate) I still work PT in the hospital to keep up my clinical skills.

Feel free to send me a private message (PM) if questions. Being a CRA does require travel....but, there are perks to traveling....all those frequent miles and free hotel stays and downfalls to traveling. This industry does like to hire nurses, but yes, sometimes it is a catch 22....they want you to have experience but how are you going to get experience if no one will hire you.

I think there is often times a tradeoff (quality of life-wise) when getting the best-paying job. Usually those jobs, like a clinical monitor, are way stressful and you may be away from where you live much of the time with 50% travel. Living in motels/hotels 1/2 the time can get old really quick. In any case, we need people to fill those shoes,

I am jealous of whoever said they work 9-5. I am in Phase I research which is a very different animal from Phase II-IV. When we have studies in house we are there 6 or 7 days of the week. The pay is similar to our local hospitals but the overtime we get really puts our pay over the top.

hello..

i am trying to find job in clinical research since two years and so far nothing. i am not a nurse but graduate of science and very much interested to work as coordinator or cra. my long term goal is to work at a site running multiple trials. i have taken classes in gcp/ich and volunteered at two diff sites for 6 months almost 30 hours/week together while keeping my son in day care.

i am very well aware of all it takes to run trials and all the regulatory guidelines and pt privacy. however, those sites were small with only one or two coordinators and were not able to hire me. i have had couple of interviews and some phone calls from pharma for entry level positions as research assistants who would work their way up to cra. i know that i have to start at bottom and work hard to get there and i am willing to do that. however, i was not offered these jobs because i don't have that one year research experience and my volunteer experience doesn't count. i have been going in circles like the chick and egg story of no experience no job; i am not sure what to do anymore. i am at point where i am thinking of looking into different field all together and start all over, but i really don't want to give up on my passion in the patient related research. i know that lot of nurses work as cras and coordinators and as well as people like me. do you have any advice for me? i believe i have done everything i can and somebody just needs to give me chance. but i don't want to give up and try something that i may not have before. what more should i do? is there hope?

i would very appreciate any advice that research nurses has to offer..
