Online education and NY

Anyone live in NY and have any info on this thing with not all schools being allowed for online study when you live here? I'm confused how this works. I found a list of "approved" schools, but they are all only in NY.

It says something about submitting paperwork after for review in order to get your license. So basically you could go to school and then not be allowed to be licensed? Are there certain schools already approved?

The large corporation I work for has paired with University of Phoenix, so they must allow them for schools. Which makes no sense to me, why would a state University not be approved but U of P is?

I'm hoping to get into SUNY but need a back up if I don't get in.

The list is not only Ny schools. There are a small handful of distance ed programs that are approved. If you chose a school that is not on the list of approved programs you will submit for licensure after program is complete an ny reviews the curriculum at that time. If they do not feel it is adequate than you do not get license and you wasted all that time and money. They also told me it is illegal to complete clinicals in NY for a program that is not approved. Oh and U of Phoenix is not approved. Not for NP anyway

Well hopefully I get into Stony Brook. There's another school that says NY residents need to contact the graduate department, doesn't say flat out they don't accept. I did find the other list finally that lists all the approved programs. Unfortuntately there are no other approved online psych NP programs other than SUNY. They really make this difficult.

Rush in Chicago has an approved program for online psych also.

I should have specified an online MSN program. I don't want to do DNP right now. Rush is DNP, which sucks because I know they have a great program!
