Love grad school? Hate it?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Specializes in nursing education.

Mostly, I love graduate school. This is my second semester.

LOVE: I am learning SO much. It's giving me new frameworks for nursing practice, new understanding of pathophysiology, networking with other nurses who are passionate about what they do. People are in school because they want to be. Profs are there because they want to teach and share what they know. The accumulated knowledge and wisdom that is "nursing" is amazing and vast and I want to be a part of it. Everything I am learning, is coming right to work with me, and enhancing what I do there. Really. Theory too. Yes, that's right. Even Sr. Callista Roy.

HATE: It's changing my self-image from that of a competent nurse and intelligent human being, to that of a blathering idiot with a bloated self-concept who doesn't even belong. There is so much to learn. SO MUCH!!! I know I'm disorganized...that's proving to be a bigger flaw in grad school than at work or in real life.

So, it's difficult, it's awesome, it's a whole lot of everything.
