    Hello all!

I am currently an APU ELM student at the San Diego campus and am happy to answer any of your questions (to the best of my ability!). I am just about finished with my first semester (it's currently finals week for us), so I may not be able to answer questions about life further on in the program.

For those of you worried about being accepted for a later term, I originally applied for Spring '13 at the San Diego campus and was told early last May that I was accepted for Summer '13 at the San Diego campus. This past November, however, I got a call that there was an opening in Spring '13 and got to start when I wanted to. Many of my fellow cohort-mates (your class is known as a cohort btw) also had a similar experience with getting to start earlier than the semester they were originally accepted for. So if you were accepted for a later semester than you wanted, I definitely recommend calling Jeanee Tuckness about any openings in earlier semesters because they seem to pop up!

Good luck to all of you! I know how nerve-wracking it can be waiting around for a response!

Hi! I had a couple of questions since I just got admitted for Spring 2014 in San Diego! How do you like it so far? Im also moving from out of town to San Diego, so what did you or others do for housing/finding roommates?
    Thanks!

    Hello! Congrats on getting accepted!

There are definitely some pros and cons to the program. Since it is a relatively new program, they are always making little adjustments to make it better, which can be good and bad. On the good side, they are open to our suggestions and ask for our input about ways to improve the program. Sometimes these changes happen during the program, so be prepared for emails about date changes for events or time changes for things (sometimes the day before). I'm pretty flexible, so these changes didn't really bother me, but I know some of my classmates were pretty annoyed. Hopefully, there will be fewer of these changes when you start next year. The program is definitely accelerated. I can't believe how much I've learned since January! There are more than likely going to be times when you will feel like you can't do it or want to quit, but your classmates become your family and will help keep you sane. Don't feel embarrassed if you get overwhelmed, because everyone is just trying to survive at one point or another in the semester. Overall, I really like the program and am glad I decided to join it. I already have some amazing friends and have had some incredible experiences and feel like I'm where I need to be.

On the housing situation, I think some people found roommates at the first orientation (the one at Azusa) that happens about 1 month before the semester starts. A lot of my classmates, however, already lived down here in San Diego, so it felt like most of my classmates already had the living situation thing all figured out. I ended up looking up apartments on Craigslist and rented a one bedroom and live on my own.

    Hope this helps! Good Luck!

K23871, Have you looked to see if anyone has stated a facebook page for the cohort yet? They are a great resource and a way to get to know other people in the cohort before it starts! I'm pretty sure spring '14 will be cohort 37. That way you can see if someone else is looking for a room mate. I already live here in the San Diego area too so if you need some help I'll do what I can.

Thank you so much for the reply! Thats really good to know the pros and cons! But I think I can deal with those! =] And Im pretty sure I'll be embarrassed! I know it will be hard, but its nice knowing that everyone is going through the same thing!

And about housing, that would be nice to meet people at orientation! It would be cheaper than living on your own I'm guessing! But Im sure it will work out either way!

Hopefully we will meet once I start! And I hope your first semester ends well!

After you finish your NCLEX, are there any programs that will help you find a RN job? Will they help you find preceptors?

I asked about job placement in my interview because San Diego is so impacted for new grads. She told me they have only had 1 instance where someone had an issue finding a job. The program is pretty prestigious. So no they don't help with job placement. I would think if you do enough networking during clinicals it would help you get a foot in the door somewhere.

Hi, congrats to all that have been admitted and good luck to those still waiting!

I'm just curious to those that have been admitted on your guys stats, I just want to get a feel if I should apply.
I have a 3.87 graduate gpa (they said they would accept this gpa over my undergrad if it was low), my science so far is 2.8 and I know that the minimum to apply for the science is 3.0. So to all those that apply and got in, do I have a chance to getting in? I still have one more science class to take. So I am hoping to get an A. What do you guys recommend, thank you so much.
    Ricebunny87,
Definitely apply!! My gpa was much lower than yours, and I didnt think I had a chance of competing with all those other "A" students out there, but I really felt the Lord was telling me to do it. So I did and I got accepted for Spring 2014 at the inland empire location! Make sure its something you really want to do, then just apply. You can still be admitted with one or two classes missing (like me) as long as you get them done before your start date. Be encouraged!

Congrats! What campus did you get accepted to?

I got the letter of acceptance for the Graduate Office. We will also be receiving another packet from the Nursing Department for everything else. That's all I know as of right now.

I also made the Facebook page for SD spring 14. Just search APU ELM SD Spring 14. You should be able to find it. Let me know if anyone has problems.
