Grief Support

Specialties Ob/Gyn

I am interested in what other hospitals do in terms of grief support for poor outcomes/ neonatal deaths, etc. Do you have specialized RN's that assist with this? Our social workers and chaplains (when they are there, Monday- Friday) are not comfortable with this. I would like to get some extra training and assist staff in this area.

Thanks

We have a couple of nurses who are specially trained in grief counseling. They make contact with the grieving parents to show pictures that were taken of the infant and to support them in their grief. The rest of the nurses help the families at the time of the death and then file information in a folder for the "grief nurses" to follow up with later.
